Final Four in Philly: Practice

Chills ran down my spine as I entered Lincoln Financial Field on Friday to cover the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Final Four practices. The teams have finally had their chance to touch the field for the first time.  I felt nervous for the Final Four teams as I watched them prepare for the biggest battle of their lives. Their war cries echoed off the empty seats and pipes rung loud throughout the Eagles’ stomping grounds.

These warriors were more than ready for their games tomorrow, and for some, this practice would be their last.

NCAA Men's Lacrosse Final FourEach practice created it’s own tempo and atmosphere. While some teams were relaxed, joking and excited to be there, others seemed quiet, composed, and were strictly business. It was great to see the different dynamics that would soon collide by the same time tomorrow. UNC, Brown, Loyola, and Maryland, make up the Final Four.

The question that will soon be answered is, who will be the Final Two?

My NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Final Four Picks

Loyola vs UNC

This game in my opinion can go either way. It ultimately depends on which way the ball bounces and whoever possess a higher Lacrosse IQ. If UNC comes out like they did against
Notre Dame and Loyola comes out like they did against Towson, there is no doubt in my mind UNC will walk away with a victory. However after seeing the practices and speaking with a few players, Loyola seems more composed and ready for this game, while UNC seemed more ready for the next game. Due to this fact, I believe the Loyola Greyhounds will win because of their focus and ability to take things one quarter at a time.

Maryland vs Brown

NCAA Men's Lacrosse Final FourBrown needs to maintain their system and believe in their new star, Bellistri, in order to put up a fight against this tough Maryland team. Maryland needs to keep playing their game and hope that their excessive amount of good players can make up for their lack of great players. I would have loved to see this game be the Championship since I think these are the top 2 teams. I believe whoever wins this game will walk away as National Champions. Due to the fact that Maryland has been consistently making it this far, and Brown has failed to make a semifinals appearance since 1994, I think the Terrapins will play in yet another Championship game. So for game two, I’m going with the Number 1 seed, the Maryland Terrapins.

If my predictions are correct, we will be watching the battle of Maryland in the Championship game!
