NJCAA Lacrosse Is On Fire! JuCo Report

NJCAA Lacrosse is so hot right now, it’s almost scary. We’ve enjoyed a fantastic season so far, and the excellence is showing no signs of letting up. Who’s going to win this year’s national title? NO IDEA. Who will play in the finals? NO IDEA. No offense to Onondaga CC whatsoever, but I do love writing that! What can I say, I’m a fan of parity!

NJCAA Lacrosse Poll – April 12th, 2016

1) Nassau (60) 10-0 – Last week’s #1
2) Onondaga (54) 7-1 – Last week’s #2
2) Essex (48) 10-2 – Last week’s #3
4) Genesee (41) 7-3 – Last week’s #4
5) Howard (37) 9-2 – Last week’s #5
6) Union County (30) 12-2 – Last week’s #6
7) Harford (20) 6-6 – Last week’s #7
8) Anne Arundel (18) 7-5 – Last week’s #8
9) Suffolk (10) 5-4 – Last week’s #9
10) Ocean County (8) 8-3 – Last week Not Ranked

Also receiving votes: Monroe (4)

Ocean County moved into 10th place on the back of a big win over Delaware Tech. Monroe beat Mohawk Valley by a large margin as well, but the poll voters decided to give OCCC a shot. Can’t say it’s not deserved!

Genesee dropped a close 10-7 game to #1 Nassau, so if you were wondering if parity is still creeping in, it is! Nassau also went to OT with Essex back on April 2nd. Nothing is guaranteed this year! You can watch highlights from Nassau vs Essex HERE, on IL.

Union County also continued to roll along, and they now sit at 12-2. They got a HUGE win over Suffolk (their first in program history), and Mark Swintek had two goals and NINE assists in this game. Woah!

Speaking of Union County…

While Mark Swintek has been tearing it up all season, and currently has 89 points on 32 goals and 57 assists, he is not the only one doing work. Swintek has already broken UCCC’s single season scoring record by 10 points, and his assists are going plenty of people. However, both Steven Borthwick and Brendan Halpin see a lot of those passes, and they have scored 42 and 39 goals, respectively, so far this season.

Even UC’s face off guy gets into the scoring mix, as Matt Axmann leads the NJCAA in face offs and ground balls, and has 24 goals to his name in 14 games. Union County also has a great defense, and is clearly a program on the rise!
