France Lacrosse Video Smorgasbord

International Lacrosse Thursdays roll on and since ‘Lacrosse’ (the cross, duh) is a french word, it’s fitting that Les Bleus would eventually pick up the sport.  French missionaries saw Native Americans playing the game and thought their sticks looked like a bishop’s crosier, and the name lacrosse was born.  I wouldn’t mind going back to Baggataway or Ojibway, but I fear we might be too late for that. But that is beside the point.

A french side selected in 2009.

Anyway, back to France.  They’ve got lax now and that’s a good thing.  Sure, the French love wine, mimes, fashion, good food, and a million other decadent pleasures, but they also love sport, and their dedication to their soccer and rugby teams could mean big things for lacrosse, should it ever take off.  Maybe the fact that an all-together American game has a french name will be enough to get them interested… or maybe they’ll just see some game action and get hooked like everyone else.  I’d say the latter is probably more realistic.  Either way, France Lacrosse has come a long way in only a short period of time.  It will be interesting to see what their team is like in 2014!
