Game Photos: Ohio Machine Defeat Bayhawks

The Ohio Machine took on the Chesapeake Bayhawks, and earned a 15-11 win from the defending champs on the road in front of  lively crowd on Saturday night. (Pointstreak says it was 14-10. Weird.) Chesapeake is now 1-4 on the year, and needs to find a way to get back to their winning ways. Ohio entered the game at 1-3 (like the Bayhawks) but moved to 2-3 with the big road W.

Chesapeake came out hot, going up 3-0, but Ohio fought back, and outscored the Bayhawks 5-1 to take a 5-4 lead at the end of one quarter of play. The scoring slowed down a bit as the game wore on, but Ohio remained strong, and took a 7-6 lead into the half.

Chesapeake took their last lead of the game early on in the third quarter, after Matt Abbott and Brendan Mundorf both found the net. The 8-7 lead was short-lived, as Ohio went on a 7 point run over 13 minutes of third and fourth quarter play to go up by 5 goals. Chesapeake scored two to trim the lead to three, but Kyle Harrison put one in with less than a minute left to kill off any remaining hopes for a comeback.

The Machine got a big night from Marcus Holman, who notched four goals and an assist for 5 points. Logan Schuss had three goals and a helper, and Peter Baum had three goals. Each of those guys took 5 shots. 10 goals on 15 shots between three guys? I’ll take it! Harrison had two goals on 4 shots, and Steele Stanwick had a hat trick of assists. Brian Phipps was solid in net making 8 saves for Ohio.

Brendan Mundorf led all goal scorers for the Bayhawks with 3 goals and 2 helpers, and Drew Westervelt had four points on 2 goals and 2 assists. Nicky Polanco scored a goal for Chesapeake, and Kyle Dixon notched the lone Chesapeake 2-pointer of the game, but it wasn’t enough as no other Bayhawk had more than 1 point. Kip Turner was good in net, making 10 saves on 24 shots.

Chesapeake was 1-5 on the man up, while Ohio went 4-7. Schuss had two man-up goals, and Holman notched his 2-pointer on an extra man chance.
