Hot Pot Of Lax: Lynchburg Lacrosse (DIII) 24/7

Lynchburg College Lacrosse Locker Room Lax
SO much lax gear.

A number of D1, D2, and D3 NCAA Lacrosse programs have been stepping up their presences on the web.  Since the traditional media outlets were not covering the sport to the degree it deserved, the schools themselves have taken up the mantle and are making it happen.  Great to see, and a vast improvement over the state of coverage from less than a decade ago.

Lynchburg is located in Virginia and they play in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with teams like Roanoke, Hampden-Sydney and Washington & Lee… and for a couple of years now, they’ve found themselves somewhere in the top 15-30 range.  To break in to that next level, of a Top 10 team, or to be a consistent National Contender, Lynchburg will need to continue to improve over the next couple of years, or have a real breakout season soon.

I watched them play Marywood last night on their webcast and I can say with some certainty that they are not there yet.  Dodging through triple teams when clearing the ball (pass it!) and moving the ball crisply around the outside 3-4 times might LOOK great, (and doing those things will let you run all over Marywood) but they won’t prepare this team for its hard games.  Lynchburg lacked a dynamic offense and didn’t seem to be able to create easy transition goals.

Then again, it’s still early in the season, but Lynchburg definitely has a lot of work to do… just like everybody else!  In the meantime, check out this video that explains where the program is at right now.  They’ve got the coaching, the athletes, the facilities, the support staff and everything else they need to get it done.  Now it just comes down to the players, and how much extra work they are willing to put in.  Chasing Tufts, Cortland and Salisbury is no easy task.
