I believe it’s roughly the same thing for public schools in NYC. However that doesn’t mean that coaches don’t get their teams together (INDOORS) a few weeks earlier and start with some workouts/conditioning, if they haven’t done so all winter already.

However, I’m specifically talking about College lax here. I don’t understand why it wouldn’t just make everyone’s lives easier to have their season run somewhat parallel to NFHS.

That’s ridiculous to me personally…particularly because if someone told me to go practice outside in February, the temperatures would still be in the mid-teens, and there would be ice everywhere.

However I understand that you are most likely in a more tropical climate than we are up here in NYC.

I still don’t understand why the College Lax season is started so ridiculously early. Many fields across the North-East are still under blankets of snow. Regardless of whether they are or not, the temperatures force players to wear layer upon layer of clothing, restricting their movement (even if it’s not much, it’s still something to consider), and thus decreasing their abilities.

Starting the season that early also takes away from the fans, as I’m sure the amount of fans that would want to pay to attend an outdoor game and risk frostbite, are much lower than the temperature will likely be.

I understand that they do not want to push the end of the season back further, as I’m sure there are some schools that end prior to Memorial Day weekend, and kids will regret staying longer on campus than they must in order to play the sport…however lacrosse season should run from first week of March – May. Better for the fans, means increased popularity for the sport.
