In this episode of WLA Weekly we cover the games form the last regular season of the Western Lacrosse Association. We look forward to the playoff games, the NLL’s return to British Columbia, and an interview with Maple Ridge Burrards Captain Jarrett Davis.
Meet Cody. He plays for Newtown’s Pee Wee box lacrosse team, and is never afraid of dropping someone with a quick cross check. I just love watching this grom run around and lay people out. Turns out he can also score some goals, but Cody’s forté is clearly bringing the pain…
I have seen Kyle Harrison give this demo (see below), or a demo very much like it, a couple of times now in my life, and I always enjoy the experience. He hits on a bunch of important points in his speech, shows the kids how he does it, and rips a couple crank shots, which always impresses the kids.
Connor Wilson noticed that Jeremy Thompson was using an interesting one twist pita/traditional variation earlier this Summer in the MLL, and had to give it a shot and try to figure it out for himself. What do you think of his effort?
Connor Wilson has found another diamond in the rough high school lacrosse recruit. Derek Andrews is a 2014 that can ball. It’s backhand box goal city!
Sometimes a little physical play can spark a team and send a clear message to their opponent that nothing is going to come easy tonight. Malcolm Chase really wants to deliver that message for the Boston Cannons.
The Rochester Rattlers sweep the New York Lizards during the 2013 regular season, and retain Major League Lacrosse New York State bragging rights for the second year in a row.
This week, our Tweet of the Week comes from lacrosse legend Mark Millon. He posed an interesting question on Twitter which I then relayed to @LaxAllStars, but I think that it’s a great question that deserves more discussion.
This week’s Reader Poll takes a look at the waning days of the 2013 Major League Lacrosse season. With the Lizards officially out of playoff contention, we are down to four teams fighting for the last two spots and a chance at the Steinfeld Cup.
At 2pm Eastern (US) Standard Time, head on over to the LAS YouTube channel for a European Box Lacrosse hangout with Simon Krause of Limegreen Lacrosse, Sean Gibson of the European Lacrosse Federation, and hopefully Jamie Plunkett of the Deutschland Adler Lacrosse Club, as well as Artjom Merjasch, a German national team hopeful!
Oregon’s new football facility is absolutely preposterous. It’s better than most NFL facilities, and makes a mockery of many other college facilities. With all this Nike money, when are the Ducks going to add men’s lacrosse? If you’ve got $68 Million for a football building, you must have $10 Million to start a killer varsity lacrosse program!
Lance Antoine took in the Ohio Machine vs Charlotte Hounds MLL game last weekend in Ohio. He provides a game report, and a look at the Hounds’ playoff potential this year. TWO GAMES LEFT!
Lacrosse standouts at younger ages are often the bigger kids, or the best natural athletes, but that isn’t always the case… in fact, sometimes you see a kid who lacks BOTH size AND speed, and yet he STILL manages to impress. This is one of those cases…
Congratulations to Kevin Kelley of California, the July 2013 Game Grower of the Month.
Inside you can find a GREAT video on the 2013 FIL World Cup, which took place in Oshawa, Ontario. The women’s world championships crowned the US as champs, and the team set a number of records in the process. This was the US’ seventh (out of 9 total) title, and the first time the Canadians had won Silver.
As we follow the New Jersey Riot 2016 team, and update you on their first hand experiences at camps, tournaments, and other events in the club lacrosse scene, we will also introduce you to some of their players via interviews. We want to know how potential college players think nowadays, and there is no better way to get informed than by talking to the players of today!
The UCSB club puts on the SB60 Elite, where 60 high level players come together for college level coaching and drilling, led by Michael Allen. While the concept of a small side elite camp is not unique, I do think the way they filmed the action is special. They used a flying drone to film the camp!
Is hitting a baseball REALLY that hard? Some MLB guys struggle with basic tricks that a 15 year old lacrosse player could pull off. What’s up with that?!?!
Kevin Leveille currently has 261 goals in his Major League Lacrosse career. The all-time leading MLL goal scorer is Tim Goettelmann, who currently has 270 goals. That’s a difference of 9 for all you English majors out there. Check out 19 Chasing 270, a short video by the MLL, for more on Leveille’s quest.
Krieg Shaw and Kevin Rowen were both playing in the men’s division at the Lake Tahoe Lacrosse Tournament two weekends ago, and Kevin captured some pretty solid iPhone video from the action.
