Inside you can find a GREAT video on the 2013 FIL World Cup, which took place in Oshawa, Ontario. The women’s world championships crowned the US as champs, and the team set a number of records in the process. This was the US’ seventh (out of 9 total) title, and the first time the Canadians had won Silver.
As we follow the New Jersey Riot 2016 team, and update you on their first hand experiences at camps, tournaments, and other events in the club lacrosse scene, we will also introduce you to some of their players via interviews. We want to know how potential college players think nowadays, and there is no better way to get informed than by talking to the players of today!
The UCSB club puts on the SB60 Elite, where 60 high level players come together for college level coaching and drilling, led by Michael Allen. While the concept of a small side elite camp is not unique, I do think the way they filmed the action is special. They used a flying drone to film the camp!
Is hitting a baseball REALLY that hard? Some MLB guys struggle with basic tricks that a 15 year old lacrosse player could pull off. What’s up with that?!?!
Kevin Leveille currently has 261 goals in his Major League Lacrosse career. The all-time leading MLL goal scorer is Tim Goettelmann, who currently has 270 goals. That’s a difference of 9 for all you English majors out there. Check out 19 Chasing 270, a short video by the MLL, for more on Leveille’s quest.
Krieg Shaw and Kevin Rowen were both playing in the men’s division at the Lake Tahoe Lacrosse Tournament two weekends ago, and Kevin captured some pretty solid iPhone video from the action.
We’ve got another movie spotting! This time around the movie is The Internship, starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. In this scene, Vaughn and Wilson lead their team in a quidditch match. One of the players on the opposing team can be seen wearing girls lacrosse goggles during the game.
No camp is complete without games, though, and my favorite as a camp coach is Sharks and Minnows. Here’s the calm before the sharknado… (and what comes after!)
The Hamilton Nationals improved to 9-3 on the season, and clinched a spot at Championship Weekend (in Philly on Aug 24-25th), with a 17-12 win over the visiting Boston Cannons this past weekend. Hamilton roared out to a huge first quarter lead, and Boston never caught up, dropping to 5-7 on the year, and in desperate need of a strong run to end the year, if the Cannons want to make the playoffs.
A few months back, we hit you with an edition of Music Monday titled “Those Pesky Kids,” full of new music by some ridiculously young artists that make a guy like me feel old these days.
On May 11th, Salisbury took on Penn State for the 2013 NCLL title in Maryland. Penn State won the NCLL D1 title with an 11-7 win over Salisbury, and an 11-2 record overall. Penn State topped Virgina 13-12 in OT in the Elite 8, and then beat Maryland 12-7 in the semifinals. Salisbury finished at 13-5, and beat Rutgers and Cornell to make the final.
This week’s morning Music Monday spotlights the Kickin’ Up Dust tour which features The Grouch and Eligh or Tribal Seeds, Atmosphere, and Slightly Stoopid.
Cassie Brunelle and Co. took on the Lake Tahoe Lacrosse Tournament last weekend, and while they didn’t emerge as champions, they definitely emerged as WINNERS! Fun times on the Lake. It’s Summer lacrosse in Nevada!
The Bayhawks hit the road this week, hot off Casey Powell’s MLL return and a huge overtime win over Boston, to face the undefeated Denver Outlaws in Mile High Stadium. The game would open with a quick goal from Denver’s Jeremy Sieverts (former Bayhawk) only to be answered equally as quickly by Chesapeake’s Drew Westervelt (former Outlaw).
A few weeks ago, a last second MLL instant replay challenge was denied on a goal. This past week, the challenge was allowed, and given. Which one was the RIGHT call? What happened? We get to the bottom of things with some help from Major League Lacrosse Commissioner, Dave Gross.
Seeing as it’s Friday, everyone should be feeling good. Hopefully this video compilation of the Thompson Family’s ridiculous stick skills don’t make you feel too bad about yourself. If it does, get out there and practice. These guys are simply ridiculous.
US Lacrosse has announced the 98 man list of players that will try out for the 2014 US Men’s Team on Labor Day Weekend at Goucher College in Baltimore. Below you will find the list, which certainly contains many of the biggest names in the game, but we’re curious to know if YOU think anyone obvious was left off?
Colton Raichl here with you today with the first installment of Stick Trick Saturday. The purpose of these drills are to improve your stick skills and creativity in your backyard, eventually transferring to the field. You can also impress your friends and have fun with it too.
Colton Raichl here to show you my way of stringing up a head. I have been stringing for about 4 years now. I have strung almost every head on my high school team, a few on my college team, and a couple more for anyone who comes in to the Bend Lax Shack during the summer!
A month ago we brought you Part One and Part Two of Chasing The Dream, by Malcolm Chase. Today we bring you Part Three of Malcolm’s epic journey, as he strives to make a game roster for the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse as a 35 year old MLL rookie.
