Playing box goalie is far more like being a hockey goaltender than a field goalie. As a former hockey goalie and current box goalie, three major adjustments occur: 1) Adjusting to the shots coming from high or even sidearm. Ice hockey shots always start from ice level. 2) Ice hockey goalies instinctively catch with their glove hand. I’ve done this several times in box lacrosse, resulting in sprained or broken fingers. It’s a very difficult instinct to undo. 3) As a box goalie compared to a hockey goalie, you need to stay a little deeper in the net, in order to cover the shots over your shoulders, and stand more upright– i.e. less crouch.
