Providence Beats Boston U 10-7

Providence College made the short trip up Route 95 to visit Boston University last night, and the host Terriers dropped a 10-7 decision to the visiting Friars. Originally, the game had been scheduled to be played in Providence, but weather forced a change to Boston, and the game was played at Nickerson Field, where the Boston Cannons used to play home games. It’s a great venue for lacrosse as well as high school football championship games (BU dropped their football program in 1997).

Geoffrey Bolte took in the game from the sidelines and provides the game photos below:

While BU didn’t pick up their first win in program history, Pat Myers did record the program’s first ever hat trick. Myers also added an assist, and was perfectly matched in points (3 goals, 1 assist) by Providence’s Alex Corboy. The Friars must be excited to see that kind of production from a  freshman!

BU won the face off battles by winning 14 of 21 draws (Sal Talkow with the wins for BU), but Providence held edges in other key categories like shots, ground balls, and forced turnovers. The Friars held a 6-4 lead at halftime, and both goalies made more than 10 saves to keep the game a relatively low scoring affair.

Providence hosts Quinnipiac on March 1st while BU hosts Vermont. The BU UVM game should already have a little edge to it due to the school’s existing rivalry, and it’s another chance for BU to take that first step towards greatness.
