I’d like to nominate our U13 Coach Greg Hanak. We are a fairly new and growing organization and he and his wife give a 110% of their time and energy to helping our program grow through coaching, being members of our board, and working with the kids even in their free time. He is everything a coach should be and more to our kids!

i nominate coach dave and coach nick of the seahawks for leading our team to our first win. we practiced hard all week and they taught us new plays that definatley contributed to our victory. they took time out of their schedule to make us better, and i thank them.

While Ryan Young definitely deserves some praise for his great play in the midst of tragedy, my vote this week goes to Dean Gibbons, a senior attackman at Harvard. Gibbons’ 3 goals and 3 assists led Harvad to a big Ivy League win over Princeton and kept Harvard’s playoff hopes alive as the Crimson can make the Ivy League tournament with a win in their final game against Yale. Gibbons has quietly been leading Harvard all year, scoring 25 goals and passing 23 assists for a team best 48 points.

I nominate Mike Huffner, of the Bucknell Bison for his game against Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y on Saturday night. Huffner, a sophomore defenseman, drew the assignment of marking 31-goal scorer Peter Baum, the nation’s fifth-leading goal-scorer, and Huffner had two caused turnovers while holding the Tewaaraton Trophy finalist without a goal. The 12-7 win gives them a first place seed and right to host the Patriot League Tournament this week.

My vote does go to the Young Brothers for their game on Sunday though.

I nominate Ryan Young of the Maryland Terrapins for the performance of the week. Playing away at Duke, and battling from behind until the 3rd quarter, Ryan Young scored the go ahead goal late in the game to give the Terps the strength they needed to put Duke down 11-9. As a side note, Young’s brother plays for Duke, and they both lost their mom to cancer last week. Both of these players showed tremendous strength by being out on the field supporting their teammates when it was needed, and now their teams will be supporting them when they need it. And that’s how its supposed to be folks.
