The Indiana Hoosiers of the MCLA will be wearing jerseys designed by U Bring Change to Minds, which feature the official colors of mental health (lime green) during the 1st annual Stick it to Stigma Lacrosse Game. U Bring Change to Minds (UBC2M) is sponsoring the Indiana University lacrosse team in their game against the University of Illinois to raise awareness for mental health.
UBC2M is the research pilot program to develop a way to track how students attitudes around mental illness and stigma change over time. It was co-founded by Glenn Close and her family in 2010 after going through their own experience dealing with a mental illness.
Stick it to Stigma Lacrosse Game
This is the first lacrosse game that is supporting mental illness; as well as probably all of these players first time playing in a charity/awareness game. Mental illness doesn’t get as much support as other illnesses and that makes the players that much more excited to play in this game.
This game is the first step in helping de-stigmatize mental illness and will hopefully drive more support in the future in lacrosse as well as other sports at any and all levels. Mental illnesses are very serious and more knowledge needs to be put out into the spotlight so everyone understand how serious they are.
The reason behind sponsoring this game is to help in a movement to end fear, shame, and misunderstanding by having people submit their stories dealing with mental illnesses in hope that it encourages others to do the same.
The Hoosiers aren’t just playing in this game. They are also taking part in a PSA, videos, written work, song, and art in order to motivate others to participate in the campaign as well.
This game will be held on April 9th at Indiana University recreational Sports Field Complex and live streamed from Bring Change to Mind’s website at 3:00PM ET. In case you want to find out more check out the websites and social media pages below.
