Colorado Wins National Title, Ends Arizona State’s Perfect Season

A late run by No. 1 Arizona State was not enough to defeat No. 2 Colorado in the 2014 MCLA Division I national championship game, as the Buffs captured their first title in a 13-12 win over the previously undefeated Sun Devils. Led by tournament MVP Riley Seidel’s six points, Colorado broke open a 5-5 halftime tie to lead 13-8 early in the fourth before ASU’s comeback attempt.

In a back-and-forth game on a beautiful day in Orange County, Calif., the No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers captured their first MCLA Division II national championship with a 12-11 win over No. 2 St. John’s. The Lakers and Johnnies both had appeared in but never won a championship game before today, with GVSU falling in the 2012 and 2008 finals and St. John’s dropping the 2007 final.

Finally, the MCLA National Championship games are nigh. Tomorrow, May 17th, four universities will play in two games to decide the National Champions of the MCLA Division I and II. The Division II game starts at noon and the Division I game will begin immediately after at 3.

The MCLA national tournament has been going on this week in Orange County, CA and although it just happens to be the hottest week of the entire year, it’s still SoCal, and the beach is right around the corner. The Montana State team, who gave No. 1 Grand Valley State a tough game in the opening round of Division II play, enjoyed some beach time on Tuesday. WARNING: Beautiful beach lacrosse photo ahead.

West Proves Dominance in Division I Final Four, Midwest in Division II

After two days of opening round MCLA national tournament action at UC Irvine, four teams remain in each division. The Division I Final Four will be an all Western affair with top seeds No. 1 Arizona State and No. 2 Colorado advancing along with No. 4 Chapman and No. 6 UC Santa Barbara. In Division II, the top four seeds – No. 1 Grand Valley State, No. 2 St. John’s, No. 3 Dayton, and No. 4 St. Thomas – all advanced, and all come from the Midwest.
