I know you know this, but the Thompson Trio changed lacrosse this season. Brothers Lyle and Miles, along with cousin Ty, dominated opponents and highlight reels by being one of the most electrifying offenses in lacrosse history. The two brothers from the Onondaga reservation in Upstate New York changed many people’s views about lacrosse after the electrifying year that was 2014.

The Final Four Weekend always leaves me with a slightly bitter taste in my mouth, and that feeling wholly emanates from the fact that college lacrosse is now over, and nothing else. It’s an unavoidable feeling, so I roll with it. To help get you over the championship weekend hump, we’ve put together a Final Four Aftermath post, to help you get back into normal society.
Reliving the Notre Dame Albany NCAA D1 lacrosse quarterfinal game is going to be a Summer past time for many people, and this is how they can do it. Simply amazing.
If you didn’t catch Notre Dame’s insane comeback on Saturday to defeat Albany in OT, you need to drop everything, go to ESPN3 right now, and spend two and a half hours watching one of the best NCAA D1 tournament games of all-time. Do you think I’m crazy for saying that? Watch the game, then […]
Less than a week ago, if you had asked me if we were going to see a new champion in D1 men’s lacrosse in 2014, I would have said “unlikely, at best”. 5 days later and my answer has changed to, “it seems incredibly likely right now, if not down right probable.”
Welcome to the Tuesday Super Post! I’m rethinking some of my picks, addressing some of the BIG ISSUES in this year’s playoffs, AND hitting you with top notch video! It’s good, it’s so good. It’s playoffs in May good!
We took all of the first round teams of the 2014 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament and broke down each roster and divided the players by state and province. Since all of the rosters had to be checked by hand, we can promise that a ton of effort was put forth, but our numbers could be slightly off (nobody’s perfect)!
Loyola was the heavy favorite heading in, but that mattered little as Albany started out hot, played composed lacrosse for 60 minutes, and got a superb effort from their defense and goalie, Blaze Riorden. The Danes beat the Hounds 13-6 on the road, and move on to the next round of the NCAA tourney, looking like the hottest team in the country.
The first thing you notice about the young men known as the “Thompson Trio” is their superior skills on the lacrosse field. Brothers Lyle and Miles Thompson and their cousin Ty are all starters at the University of Albany.
But that’s not what makes them most proud.
Albany goes down 4-0 to Stony Brook, and then the Thompsons start scoring and things change quickly. We go from upset alert to straight up battle, with #1 seed Albany eventually winning out. You want behind the back goals? You want awesome dodges and passing? You want a game that goes to OT where the Danes win 17-16 and need a last second goal just to make it to OT?
Ty Thompson is ready to blow your mind with this goal in a clutch win over rival Sienna.
Albany took down Stony Brook 17-7 this week, and the Thompsons were back to their old tricks, scoring at will, and making the rest of us look like average lacrosse players. This win was huge for Albany because it wrapped up an America East tourney bid for the Danes (they are 3-0 in conference).
I’m not going to lie, I am VERY excited for tonight’s Albany vs. Johns Hopkins game on ESPNU (7pm ET). In my rabid fandom I searched for videos of the Thompsons, and while I came across a number of well known classics, I also found a hidden gem that has somehow slipped through the cracks. How does this video of Lyle Thompson (playing for Lafayette HS) only have 771 views?
The Thompson Trio is certainly well-known in the lacrosse world at this point. But are they the most exciting players since Mike Powell donned #22 at Syracuse? Kyle Harrison seems to think so!
As the season has rolled on, it seems like there is more and more top quality lacrosse video put up online each week. We scour the internet for top quality college lacrosse video and put it all in one place, for your ease and viewing pleasure. Enjoy! Another great weekend of college lacrosse is in the books!
