Albany took down Stony Brook 17-7 this week, and the Thompsons were back to their old tricks, scoring at will, and making the rest of us look like average lacrosse players. This win was huge for Albany because it wrapped up an America East tourney bid for the Danes (they are 3-0 in conference).

I’m not going to lie, I am VERY excited for tonight’s Albany vs. Johns Hopkins game on ESPNU (7pm ET). In my rabid fandom I searched for videos of the Thompsons, and while I came across a number of well known classics, I also found a hidden gem that has somehow slipped through the cracks. How does this video of Lyle Thompson (playing for Lafayette HS) only have 771 views?
The Thompson Trio is certainly well-known in the lacrosse world at this point. But are they the most exciting players since Mike Powell donned #22 at Syracuse? Kyle Harrison seems to think so!
As the season has rolled on, it seems like there is more and more top quality lacrosse video put up online each week. Lyle Thompson casually throws a split dodge behind his back, makes another quick move, and then feeds the crease, where he finds his brother, Miles, who finished with a casual behind the back goal. When your stick is an extension of your body, and you play a ton of backyard lacrosse, these kind of plays become routine. For the rest of us, it’s simply amazing, but for the Thompsons? It’s just another day at the office.

The D1 NCAA Lacrosse season is well underway, and every single D1 program has played at least one game. Some teams have played as many as four games already, and we’ve got a couple of undefeated squads looking strong early. It’s time to run through the D1 scene and see where things stand.
We’re back again with the Alphabetical 2014 NCAA D1 Previews! Like last year, we’ll go through all of the D1 men’s teams for 2014 (there are 67 this year!) and we are now moving on to the Albany Great Danes, located in Albany, NY.
All three Thompsons have scored some pretty incredible goals this year, but none of them have been quite so casual AND highlight reel worthy, as this recent effort from Lyle Thompson.
Miles Thompson’s recent goal against Stony Brook is insane. He takes a look at the net, turns his back, pivots, and then just wails the ball at the net without looking, sticking it inside the pipe. If this were anyone else, we’d say they got lucky, but since it’s a Thompson, we want to know if you think he practices this.
The Albany Great Danes got a HUGE win for the program earlier this year over Syracuse, and that win has kept them buoyed in, or near, the Top 20 for much of the year. With their 10-9 win at Johns Hopkins on Friday night, the Danes are sure to move up in the standings, and they could even reach as high as #14 or 15.
Miles Thompson returns from injury and drops nine goals on Bryant in a win for Albany lacrosse. The Thompsons combined for 22 points in the game.
Miles, Lyle, and Ty Thompson displayed an uncanny ability to play with each other in Albany’s upset win over Syracuse. See their lacrosse IQ in action, and why it makes Albany instantly dangerous.
