The D1 NCAA Lacrosse season is well underway, and every single D1 program has played at least one game. Some teams have played as many as four games already, and we’ve got a couple of undefeated squads looking strong early. It’s time to run through the D1 scene and see where things stand.
It’s fairly well known that longtime New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is a lacrosse guy. His daughter is the head coach for Wesleyan’s women’s program, and she as well as Bill himself played their college ball at Wesleyan. This week, Peter Baum tweeted a photo of Belichick wearing a Johns Hopkins lacrosse sweatshirt at the NFL Combine.
Last week we had UNC vs UVA for the whole enchilada that was 1986. This week, we’re going two days further back in time to see how UNC made it to the finals. How’d they do it? They knocked off legendary Johns Hopkins, that’s how!
Tom Garvey gave me an older STX Proton+ from his days at Johns Hopkins and he wanted a pocket thrown in there so he could either use the stick while coaching or put it on display. I decided to up the ante a little bit and throw in a second head, which I dyed to resemble the Hopkins head in style, to commemorate his time playing for Maverik United in the LXM PRO.
Yesterday’s Johns Hopkins Vs Ohio State game was the first college lacrosse game of the year to be broadcast on national TV (ESPNU), and it quickly showed just how important playing games on TV has become in the modern world. We’re back with the Alphabetical 2014 NCAA D1 Previews! Like last year, we’ll go through all of the D1 men’s teams for 2014 (there are 67 this year!) and we are now moving on to the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, located in Baltimore, MD.

Watch as Dave Pietramala, head coach of the Johns Hopkins University men’s lacrosse team, breaks down what he refers to as “The 3v2 Johns Hopkins Challenge”
Today’s Throwback Thursday post focuses on Dave Pietramala, and we’re using a 1989 NCAA Semifinal game between Johns Hopkins and UNC to demonstrate his straight up dominance. Petro is now the head coach at Hop, but he was also a terror with a longstick on the field during his playing days. He drew the top assignment, and then made them pay.
Peter Tumbas is at the IMLCA Coaches’ Convention in Baltimore, MD this weekend and will be reporting on the convention scene later in the coming week. For now, enjoy some photos of the upcoming gear for college teams in 2014 that is on display.
Did you enjoy Hopkins destroying their alumni team, by an ungodly almost 30 to 2? Looking for a slightly more competitive fall video? Hopkins vs Fairfield has you covered! YouTube user huntva is killing it with fall video. Thank you!
Did you miss this video of the recent Johns Hopkins alumni game? If you did, it would be a shame, if we didn’t have it here for you to take in! But we do, so don’t fret.
Seniors Rob Guida and James Malm, along with Junior Mike Pellegrino, have been named the 2014 captains for the Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse program. Hop missed out on the NCAA tournament last year, so the naming of captains definitely has a little extra spark to it this year.
