Music Monday: Off the Main-stream

Good Monday to all the Lax All Stars across the globe! With Tom and Peyton grappling for NFL legend status and Kanye and Miley battling for the controversy spotlight, I thought it would be appropriate to stay off the beaten path for another Music Monday.

Music Monday: Cover This

Welcome back to another Music Monday LAS! A few weeks ago LAS contributor Josh Rottman passed a video along. It’s a cover of Allen Stone’s “Bed I Made” by Jules Houts. Jules played at UC Davis along with Josh. I really enjoyed the cover wanted to share it along with a few other covers. Take a listen!

Music Monday: Passafire

Passafire Music Monday

To close out your Monday, we’re coming through with a great new reggae-rock album by Georgia’s own Passafire. This band formed back in 2003 when a bunch of college kids got together and started experimenting with their sound, which has evolved into something on the edgier side of that chill alternative beach sound.

Music Monday: Eyes Open

Sol (Sol Moravia-Rosenberg) is a hip-hop artist based out of Seattle, Washington. His understated lyrics, exuberant performances, and diverse instrumentation have solidified him among the leaders of the northwest music scene. Last year, he released his first independent album, Yours Truly, which quickly rose to #1 on the iTunes US Hip-Hop Chart. Sol then decided to leave the United States on a ten month globe-trotting hiatus as part of the Bonderman Honors Travel Fellowship he was awarded at the University of Washington. Ten months and ten countries later, Sol returned to the United States, evolved and inspired. Now equipped with a world of perspective, Sol is ready to share his newest project, Eyes Open. If you haven’t caught wind of Sol’s music, you’re in for a treat.

Music Wednesday? Eminem’s New Album

We’re back with a new Music Monday, on Wednesday, and for this rare Wed morning edition, we’re having a look at rap legend Eminem’s new album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2. I’m going to go right ahead and say that Eminem was, is (still), and always will be, one of the best rappers in the game. Yes, he’s had some sub-par albums in recent years, but I think that Recovery and especially this new album, which released November 5th, show that he hasn’t lost a step and remains one of the best lyricists and collaborators.

Music Monday: Lorne Smith’s 2014 New Year’s Party

As mentioned in a previous Music Monday, Lorne and The Wayhighs would be announcing show soon. They’ve got a pretty awesome event lined up for New Years. Is it too early to start thinking about New Years Eve?  Not when we’re talking about the Wayhighs first ever show in Yosemite at the 11th Annual Yosemite Bug New Year’s […]

Music Monday: Oh, it’s The O’s

Music Monday The O's

Let me introduce to you the Dallas duet known simply as The O’s. Taylor Young and John Pedigo played together in various other bands before striking out alone on their guitar and banjo in 2008. These two can absolutely jam and really show it on their new album, entitled Thunderdog, which let’s be honest is one […]

Music Monday: No Gods

First up we have a new track from a Seattle duo we featured a couple months back. Shelton Harris and Tyler Dopps just dropped a brand new song and as usual, it’s nothing short of great. It’s clear that Shelton Harris and Tyler Dopps always put 110% into everything they release. From solid production to lyrics, every song is on point.

Music Monday: Because The Internet

Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino is making yet another appearance on Music Monday. We first brought Gambino to you back when his hit “Freaks and Geeks” blew up. CG is causing a buzz once again and this time we have a few tracks from his upcoming album, Because the Internet. The album is currently scheduled for a Dec. 10 release. This marks Gambino’s first project since he dropped his Royalty mixtape on July 4th of last year. Gambino can give us a typical hip-hop banger like “Worldstar” or a track with a mellower tone but one thing is certain; his wordplay never falters.

Music Monday: A Tribe Called Red

ATCR recently dropped their latest album, Nation II Nation, which includes tracks like “Sisters” and “Bread and Cheese” below. CW put it best, this music “Makes me want to play lacrosse!”

Music Monday: Not So College Rap

music monday time

Today we’re checking in with two well-known “college rap” rappers that have been maturing over the last couple years… and moving away from the party rap scene into their own deeper genres.

Music Monday: Tacos on Broadway

This week’s Music Monday brings us yet another gem from the Pacific Northwest. Seattle lyricists Tiglo and Cole better known as Brothers From Another or BFA for short are a young duo hailing from Seattle. The Seattle Hip-Hop scene is quite impressive and BFA brings an “easy going flavor of the mid 90’s while maintaining a new school attitude in their lyrics.” The two have managed to put out 6 EP’s to date and only have a bright future ahead of them.
