Take 5 With Kyle Harrison: Christmas Flicks

Well, for starters, this is by far the best time of the year with out a doubt! It was a bit weird to be out in L.A. during the holiday season because 70 degree weather, shorts and palm trees just didn’t feel like Christmas to be AT ALL. They give it a solid effort out there with Christmas lights all over the place and Santa’s in every mall, but I wasn’t feeling it! It’s definitely nice to be back on the east coast and be able to be around my family and friends for the holiday!

Anyway, this week we’re going to go with my top five Christmas flicks! There are a handful of movies in my mind that instantly make me think of Christmas, so here we go!

1. Home Alone

I know I know, awkward for a grown man to be throwing out Home Alone as one of my favorite Christmas movies. But, growing up, this movie was hilarious and ALWAYS came on TV (still does) during Christmas time!

I was actually sitting at my cousin’s house (Maxx Davis) the other day with a bunch of his UMBC Lacrosse teammates watching Home Alone 2 and talking about how crazy it is that those two crooks survived all the stuff Macaulay Culkin put them through! Secondly (and probably more importantly), how did a 9 year old from the suburbs come up with all of those crazy tricks? Either way, this movie instantly puts anyone who sees it into a Christmas mood.

2. Friday After Next

This movie is absolutely HILARIOUS! If you haven’t seen it, go rent it ASAP. I’ve said it a million times, but I wish Mike Epps was in more movies. That cat is one of the funniest people on this earth in my opinion. This doesn’t really fit under the category that Home Alone does, but the story takes place during Christmas and has a few hilarious Christmas scenes in it, so I’m tossing it on the list.

3. Elf

Another hilarious Will Ferrell movie!  You either love Ferrell’s humor or you hate it, but you can’t deny that this movie YELLS Christmas… and it puts you in a great mood every time it’s on TV.

4. This Christmas

I’m not sure how many people saw this movie. I actually thought it would do a lot better at the box office than it actually did. But, I thought this was a great Christmas movie for our generation. Christ Brown was in it, which will probably turn some people off from the beginning, but I thought overall it was a really entertaining movie. I’m also a big fan of the actor Idris Elba, who had a big part in this film as well. If you haven’t seen it before, it’s worth checking out.

5. Fred Claus

Honestly, every movie Vince Vaughn is in is entertaining. I wasn’t a huge fan of his last Christmas movie, Four Christmases (even though it had its funny parts), but I thought Fred Claus was hysterical. My favorite scene in the movie is when he’s dancing with the elf! It’s definitely another feel good Christmas story, and I’ll take it.

I could make an entirely different list of Christmas movies, but these are definitely some of my favorites! Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights would definitely be on the top of my next list. That movie is out-of-control funny. If you haven’t seen that one, definitely go rent it. What are some of your favorite Christmas movies?

Well, it’s time for me to get some last minute Christmas shopping done and get organized for the beginning of 2010! Have a happy and safe holiday with your families, and I’ll catch up with you all soon!
