Expect The Best

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! Happy Monday!

This weekend, I had the good fortune of getting back out on the basketball court. It’s something I love to do, but rarely have (make) time to do. I’m always looking for perspective and life lessons. Sports and competition tend to provide many of them, and Sunday morning was no different.

Throughout the course of play I missed a few layups that probably should have been very easy ones. I missed them, however, because instead of just going to the rim, I was anticipating contact with a defending player. I was anticipating being fouled and, in doing so, adjusted my body and my take off. Once I left the floor, there was no contact, but I’d already made something that should have been easy and routine, a lot more difficult.

In life, we sometimes look for and expect the foul. We expect that things will go wrong. We expect that somebody’s words are will ill intent. We expect that others are not going to be able to get things done. Some of us habitually expect, often without realizing that we do it, that there’s always going to be something to disturb what should be routine. And when we do, we often make things more difficult on ourselves than they need to be.

This week, expect the best. Expect things to be favorable for you. Try not to be a conspiracy theorist, or the person that always believes others are out to get them or make things harder for them. Open layups in life don’t come too often. We cannot afford to miss them, because we are expecting to be fouled, when the truth is … Most people are doing their best to avoid fouling us.

Make it a GREAT day and a GREAT week!

Stay blessed.
