Not Just When You’re Knocked Down

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! And happy Friday!

Any athlete, or socialete (as I call them) knows that as we age, our recovery time gets longer and longer. We know (fool ourselves into believing?) that we can play the same way we used to. But we also know that our bodies will not handle the next day the same way they handled the next day 10, 15, 20+ years ago. And such is the case in life. Our recovery time from pain gets longer as we get older.

When we are kids, we go from happy to angry in a matter of seconds or minutes, and forget it as soon as it’s snack time. Kids can sometimes be bribed out of their bad moods! When is the last time an offer of candy, or ice cream, or a trip to the pool made you forget that you were unhappy about something?

The good thing is that as athletes we can train our bodies to recover quickly. It may not be the same way we recovered when we were 10 years younger. But when we are in shape – when we’ve been training – and we’re physically prepared for whatever physical activity in which we are going to engage, we find that the next day is not as tough as it could be. And it often takes less time and effort than it does the person that hasn’t been training. Mentally and emotionally, the process is the same. When we work on our attitude, and we focus on maintaining mental and emotional strength and stability, our recovery time from negative occurrences shortens.

Train your mind and body to handle mental, emotional, and physical exertion with the understanding that your training is not just for the times you get knocked down. It’s also to shorten the time it takes you to get back up.

Make it a GREAT day, and a GREAT weekend!

Stay blessed.
