Lax Link-O-Rama

The wintery months often leave us in the lurch when it comes to lacrosse content but this week was surprisingly interesting.  The NLL season is just around the corner and we’ll try to bridge the gap between boxla and field lacrosse a bit this winter.  Some people don’t really care for the NLL and think its a bastardization of “real” lacrosse.  That makes about as much sense as saying “real Americans” only live in the Midwest.

Lacrosse, like our nation, is an ever-changing and evolving game and at this point there is no “real” version so open your eyes and your mind and if you go to a game in person, try to cover your ears so you don’t have to hear Will.i.am and Fergie singing about how good tonight is going to be.  Who else hates that song with a passion?

As an intro to box, maybe its best to hear about it through good players who are also being exposed to the game, some for the first time. Check out this article on a Vermont Club doing just that. There is also a GREAT piece of video on E-lacrosse featuring a box league called the MABLL with teams from Maryland and VirginiA (the states, not the colleges).  Some legit players tune their game up here for the NLL.

Pressler and Team USA will take on his old team, Duke.

The IMCLA Convention is this weekend.  One of LAS’ operatives will be providing some updates and thoughts this week, IL has a piece on what went down Friday and will be providing further updates as the weekend progresses.

Speaking of coaching, Lax.com brings you the second installment of breaking down a defense and its a great read for first time coaches and veterans alike.  Fundamental understanding of defensive strategy will make everything your team does that much better so its really worth focusing on.

There’s been quite a bit of US Team news lately. They will play Pressler’s old team, Duke, at the end of January down in Florida.  And then over the summer they will play an MLL All-Star team.  Personally, I think they should just play the Toronto Nationals and settle the Gold Medal game right there.  OK, maybe it’s a stretch but stay with me here…the Nationals are basically Team Canada now so it kind of makes sense.

If you can’t parse what I’m laying out here, make sure you read Kyle Devitte’s piece on the MLL Supplemental Draft.  Actually, even if you don’t understand what I’m talking about, read Kyle’s piece anyway.  Its spot on, detailed and funny.  Keep up the good work, Kyle!

Tomorrow I’ll be helping out at a Citylax clinic at Midwood HS Athletic Complex in Brooklyn.  If you live in the NYC area and want to volunteer contact me at Connor@lacrosseallstars.com and I can help you get involved!
