The Salt Shakerz took home the hardware at yet another lacrosse event, and this time they braved the temptations of New Orleans to win it all at the 2012 Mardi Gras Lacrosse Tournament. They cruised through their Friday and Saturday games for the most part and went on to win by a pretty comfortable margin in the final over the UVA Men’s Club Team out of the NCLL. UVA took out 2011 champ Tony’s Tavern 4-3 on Friday and also went undefeated on their run to the finals.
The game was easily the most physical and intense game of the tournament and there were big hits, lots of sticks flying and even an air Gaits, one with a longstick that was called back. great effort though. You can see it in the highlight below at the 1:00 minute mark. Matt Witko, a former Tufts All-American, was named the MVP by the Shakerz, who were making their first trip to NOLA for the MGLT.
The Shakerz will be back soon with a recap of Miami and New Orleans, and hopefully they’ll also have their own set of highlights to show off, as the game was filmed with a camera on a pole. It was really cool to see, and from what I could tell, the quality was going to be top notch. For now, check out what I captured… it’s a great start!
At the bottom of the post you can see highlights from former Mardi Gras tourneys…
2010 Highlights and Championship Game
Witko was the game, and Shakerz, MVP, but Marc Bouchard was the overall tournament MVP. He was just a force out there. And it had absolutely nothing to do with his play on the field. Nutria beware, Bouchard is coming for you!!!! If you don’t have any idea what I’m talking about, but you want to, you will just have to come down to NOLA next year and find out.
