Salt Shakerz Lacrosse Club Jam By The Sea Tournament Preview

Editor’s Note: Welcome the Mark Powers and the Salt Shakerz Lacrosse Club back to LAS!  The boys are headed out to San Diego this weekend for a new tournament!  Should be exciting.  Let’s see what they have planned, shall we?

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This weekend, the boys in pink will take a few days off from preparing to host the 1st annual Salt Shakerz Invitational Lacrosse Tournament (register your team at laxoften.com) to hit the West Coast and participate in the 2011 Jam By the Sea Tournament being held in beautiful San Diego, California.

With winter finally finishing up in the Shakerz’ home base of NYC, the guys are excited hit the road and meet up with their West Coast brethren to get a jump on the warm weather, lax it up, and hit the beach.  Jam By Sea will be the Shakerz second tournament of 2011 after completing a successful campaign at the Miami Bump ‘n Grind Tournament in late January.  Also, Jam by the Sea represents the club’s second foray into the west coast lax scene (LaxVegas Champs 2010, what-what!!) and the Shakerz are excited to see how they do it out on the left coast.

The Jam by the Sea Tournament is being held at the prestigious San Diego Polo Club, which is located in Del Mar, California.  The tourney will feature multiple age groups and divisions, but the Salt Shakerz will be playing in the Men’s Post Collegiate Club division.  The division includes a number of high caliber teams including; 40 Thieves, Quicksilver and the Marin Lacrosse Club.

Additionally, the Shakerz are looking forward to seeing their 2010 LaxVegas rivals, Team Xiphos, based out of San Francisco.  The teams played two very competitive and tightly contested games back in November, which saw the Shakerz defeat Xiphos by 1 goal for the championship in Vegas.  Hopefully the good competition between the two clubs will continue, similar to the way the Shakerz have developed a little rivalry with the Stickhead Pro-Athletics team, having faced them in the playoffs the last two years at the Bump n Grind tourney.

The Salt Shakerz’ stable of players continues to expand, especially as the club takes on events farther and farther away from its home in the northeast.  The Jam by the Sea tourney is a prime example of this expansion, and the club is excited to show off its game and its gear to those on the west coast who may still be unfamiliar with the Shakerz and what the club is all about.  The “San Diego Squad” features 9 players who currently live on the west coast, and they will be joining up with some Shakerz vets that are coming in from the east coast.  Leading the west coast posse is former Syracuse Orangeman, Joe Coulter, who will be returning for his second tourney with the club after aiding the Shakerz offense at the 2011 Bump N Grind.  Coulter will be joining Jon Namer, Brian Bates, and Mike McPherson to name a few of the guys from the Southern California area that are on the squad.  Namer, Bates and McPherson all cut their teeth with the Shakerz at LaxVegas and are looking to win another championship.

The East Coast will also be well represented as former Salisbury attackman Jake DeLillo will be returning to the lineup to play in what will be his fourth tourney with the Shakerz.  DeLillo will be joined by former Loyola Greyhound defenseman Blaine Mitten and Shakerz newcomer, Tommy Freeman, an LSM/D-middie who played at SUNY Maritime.

The Shakerz goaltending corps; definitely the strongest part of the club, will continue to impress in San Diego.  JP Fragola and Corey Vaillancourt, who have both turned in amazing performances for the Shakerz in the past, will be joining forces in San Diego to anchor what is shaping up to be a formidable defense.

In what has become standard operating procedure for the club, the Salt Shakerz will be debuting some new threads out at Jam by the Sea.  For this tourney, the boys went with a pink confetti/all-over print style short and a white Under Armour Tech tee with the Shakerz’ moniker “LAX OFTEN…” across the chest.  The club is continuing to pay homage to its philanthropic cause, breast cancer research, by using the color pink in its off-field apparel and tournament uniforms.

Also, Warrior/Brine Product Manager Sean Slater will be debuting some custom Shakerz equipment at Jam by the Sea.  Be on the lookout for custom “Shakerized” Warrior Burn 2.0 cleats and Salt Shakerz edition Warrior elbow pads.  This guy just keeps the hits coming!  Stay tuned to LAS and Sweet Sweet Lax for more of Slater’s San Diego swag coming later this week and updates from the Shakerz as the team travels to San Diego.

In hitting up the Jam by the Sea tournament, the Salt Shakerz are looking forward to a ton of competitive lacrosse, some maxin and relaxin on the beach, and the chance to grow the game while having another insane weekend with the boys.
