Who Does It Better? Battle of the Blue Devils

Welcome to our brand new series, Who Does It Better? We will showcase one match-up each week in which we put two people, places or even things up against each other and ask you, the reader, Who Does It Better? It’s all good-hearted fun though, and that should be pretty prevalent by our match-ups. Know of a good match-up we should feature? Let us know!

WDIB rolls on with a match-up straight out of the mean streets of Durham, North Carolina. Today, we put two of Duke’s best products on the chopping block to see who comes out on top. Unfortunately we could only pick two, so Quinzani and Greer lucked out this time. We want to know lax nation, who does it better? Ned Crotty or Matt Danowski?

Please remember! This is all in good fun, we love everyone featured in this series and couldn’t be more appreciative of their contributions to our great game!

Ned Crotty

Ned Crotty has been one of the best attackmen in the MLL for some time now, even being called the best lacrosse player in the world back in 2011 by our very own Connor Wilson. As a three time All American at Duke, he won the 2010 Tewaaraton Trophy while helping lead Duke to a 2010 National Championship Title. He also stands in 4th place all-time for career points in the Blue Devils records book with 239 points (92 goals and 147 assists).

That same year, Crotty became the Rookie of the Year in the MLL and the Team MVP for the Rochester Rattlers. Since then, he has continued to improve his game and collect all sorts of awards as he dominates defenders each week in the MLL. When not tearing it up on the field, Crotty plays in the NLL for the Philadelphia Wings and working with Trilogy and Brine Lacrosse.

It doesn’t hurt that he has upped his TV presence as well, love this commercial for ComLax. This lefty attackman just about does it all.

Matt Danowski

Before Crotty and Quinzani were the men on campus, Matt Danowski and Zack Greer were scoring goals for the Blue Devils. Danowski won the Jack Turnball award as a sophomore for being the Nation’s best attackman (no big deal). Danowski won the Tewaaraton Award in 2007 and helped lead the Blue Devils to the NCAA tournament the next two years, unfortunately losing to Johns Hopkins in both years. Danowski ended his collegiate career with a slew of awards and broke the NCAA career points record his senior year.

As a professional, Matt has kept the pedal to the ground and has settled in North Carolina with the now 2nd year squad, the Charlotte Hounds. For the past two years, Matt has remained near the top for total points and actually led the league with 2-pointers in 2011 and was 6th overall in the MLL for total points last year.

Matt has also taken his talents back to Durham and is currently an assistant coach at Duke under his father.

The above video is a big reason why I like Danowski so much, his emphasis on being a great riding attackmen and not just a shooter.

You can follow foth both Ned Crotty and Matt Danowski on Twitter.

Who ya got lax nation, the lefty or the righty, the Rattler or the Hound, Ned Crotty or Matt Danowski?
