Logan Tousaw is starting again for Marquette, who currently sits at 7-0. Tousaw has seven starts, 9 ground balls, and 9 caused turnovers. He was a starter last year as a Junior and the OCC product has been a big boost for the Golden Eagle defense.

JuCo Interview – Anne Arundel’s Jason Grace

This is your first year at Anne Arundel, so what steps are you taking to hit the ground running?

I will not be attempting to reinvent the wheel here. Coming into a program that was successful last year is always a challenge. Attempting to put in a new system can always be challenging. I think what has helped me coming in is communication. From the first day that is what I have stressed to the team. They know my door is always open and the can always contact me. Having weekly meeting with captains also helps me keep a pulse on the team.

Our captains are helping me be more vocal by them telling the rest of the guys the same thing. In practice we get a lot of reps in as well. The more reps with drills, offense, defense, EMO, and man down defense helps everyone learn faster.

Where has AACC historically found their players? Will you maintain that same recruiting base?

A lot of our guys will come from in-county along with the eastern shore. We will get a few kids from surrounding areas but mainly from Anne Arundel County and the Eastern shore. I am approaching recruiting the same way I did at Hanover College. I want kids not only from Maryland but all over. I learned from Brian Duncan that if you like a kid go after him. If I hear he is talking to top four year schools but has not committed why not throw my name in the hat?

I want kids from all over the nation to come play for me. Everyone brings a different style of play. We need to be a melting pot of talent to be successful. Everyone can learn something from everyone. I do not care if you are from Maryland, New York, Oregon, or Colorado… there are players all over this nation. Even internationally, I would like to get players.

Without telling us too much and giving it all away, how does the AACC team look this year?

We have talent and I am happy with how the guys are shaping up. We still need to get better every day but being new and changing the system up, it will be a rebuilding year in that aspect. It’s not that we are low on talent, but just learning a new system.

Why did you take the AACC job? What do you find rewarding about the NJCAA experience?

The reason I came back to Maryland is due to the fact that I lost my previous coaching job due to budget cuts. I applied to a few programs that were looking but AACC was a great fit. My wife and I are both from Maryland and now we can see our families a lot more. Living out of state for the last 4 plus years made it hard to see family.

The community college level is very rewarding. I credit a lot to my own community college experience. I went to Harford Community College before York and I think that help set me up to be successful on the field and in the classroom. I like to give back to places where I came from. I never went to AACC but I did have the Community College experience.

For someone who doesn’t know what AACC is like, or what kind of programs it offers, can you explain the school, and how it is set up?

AACC is an academically challenging school. The guys are getting a good education along with playing some really tough competition. Some of the programs you can get into here are business, computer science, engineering, law enforcement, architecture, and allied health. We offer close to 50 associate degree programs.

Who are going to be some of the other top teams in Maryland JuCo Lacrosse this year?

Top Maryland teams this year will be Essex, Howard, and Harford. These are always tough programs. Essex is the team that every in Maryland wants to beat. They are a tough program and Coach Burk has done a great job with that program. Harford and Howard are also going to be tough games for us this year.

Thanks Coach! Appreciate all the info and great answers! Good luck this year to Coach Grace and the entire AACC lacrosse program!
