Connor, I always enjoy the depth of your posts. They have always seemed excellent food for thought. The reason why local sports teams aren’t broadcasted locally is primarily bc they feel it would rob them of ticket sales, and in a league that’s scrimping to get by every penny counts. However, if they did broadcast locally, as you suggested, it might temporarily effect ticket sales, but the exposure would inevitably yield higher results in the long run.

Totally. And the opposing coaches are also likely to attend these events and/or tell their teams to go watch the local guy play at a higher level. One giant feeder program at its finest.

The funniest thing about MLL rule breaking to me is that the fogos, especially Chris Eck (who killed it both times I watched the cannons this year), fully clench the throat of their stick with their palm. I mean in college you can’t touch the plastic, and these guys are way past taping the throat.

I would like more TV coverage as well. It is fast enough to put aside the “game is too slow” complaints from some re: the college game – especially those up north.

And, if your ISP allows it, all – or most – MLL games are available on ESPN3 either live or as a replay. I run my laptop to my TV with an HDMI and still enjoy the games on the “big screen.”

Cant practice more because it costs money to pay players to practice/travel expenses
Cant make more money because guys cant travel in the beginning of the week for more than one game a week due to full time commitments.

I think you’re going down the right path on this.

It’s going to be a little give and take on all sides. Here is what I would suggest (disclosure; I’m spit balling here, not all ideas fully thought out…)
1) To play, you need to be able to commit to living in the area for the season. Your job will be to practice and play, but also promote the team and game. Putting on clinics, running pro camps, etc.
2) Shorten the season. The teams can’t pay players enough to make this their job, but they are young enough that they can take two months to just play lacrosse. There will be some NCAA superstars who can’t make that commitment, but a group of lesser talented, more committed guys will give you a better product on the field.
Also, now you can play 2 or 3 games a week, so you can play the same amount of games in that shorter season, maybe more.
3) Bring a team back to Philly.
