Throwback Thursday: John Tavares Playing 1988 Junior A Lacrosse

Recognize that #9 sweater in blue? Probably because he’s still playing in the NLL today! Yes, that’s Johnny Tavares balling out for the Mississauga Tomahawks the season he earned Rookie of the Year honors.

No one, ever, will have a career as long and as decorated as John Tavares, in this I’m confident.

This #ThrowbackThursday gold comes from a Cable 10 Sports broadcast of the Tomahawks against the Etobicoke Eclipse from 1988.

To give a little bit of reference, Connor was 8 years old, Jeff was 2 and I was still a twinkle.

There is nothing like the wooden box sticks, the short shorts, and highly under padded goalies. The game might appear a bit slow, but I still can’t imagine trying to hang with John Tavares!

I know most box guys came from hockey, but some of the guys are rocking half masks, seriously?! Were the moms and girlfriends of the past not concerned with guys jacking up their grills?

Oh well, I guess a singe football bar can be better than nothing! I’ll stick with my Bauer box bucket instead.
