I think the biggest challenge for the growth of box lacrosse in the US is playing space. In Canada, it seems there are lots of rinks to play in whereas here they are a little harder to come by, at least where I live. (I've only been to Canada once; Montreal for a bachelor party, so I've spent maybe 2-3 sober hours in the country.)
Do they make portable box rink kits that you could set up in a large gym or field? It would be a hard sell to build something just for box lacrosse and street hockey, but something you could temporarily build over what you already have might work. They would be a pain to store though.

Also, I'm glad Trevor agrees with me on field goalies not making good box goalies...

I really enjoy Trevor"s columns. Keep 'em coming.

I also think the climate has a ton to do with it. In Canada, like here in Upstate NY, the only option in 4-6 months of the year is box. Our youth leagues from fall through winter are box. Weather is the forcing function and I agree totally with Coach's assessment on skills, etc. Although Hockey does take a large number of athletes away from their sticks for the winter...

Thank god someone finally picks up Canadian Box Lacrosse. West Coast Canada, British Columbia, and East Coast Canada, Ontario are your true hotspots of lax. We go right from Field Lacrosse Provincials to our Box Lacrosse tryouts, sometimes they're on the same day. Then box ends, we get about a month off where everyone goes to the outdoor box and hones their field skills, then we're at field tryouts. We never stop, and now converting our box players to field players has GTG even more. I mean, could you imagine a guy who goes through a shortman rag in box lacrosse and scores, playing attack for your team? I don't care how hard your poles swing, won't even equal the pain of taking the lane and taken those cross checks in box. And the speed of the hands you need for box ball movement? Welcome to the hot spot of lax.
