LaxAllStars.com, led by Billy Nguyen, Joe Barile, John Ray, and Justin Otto moved to 2-0 with a tight 11-10 win over Rudy Martinez’ Brooklyn Dodgers squad. Jeff Melnik, the creator of the video, is Brooklyn’s goalie. The Gotham Goats moved to 1-1 with a win over Team America, who drops to 0-2 early in the year.
Growing up in Minnesota, Nick Jonas attended Swarm games, eventually he would get drafted by organization and signed to a two year deal before he ever stepped on the floor. Follow Nick on his journey to the National Lacrosse League.
We hinted at it earlier, then gave you and unofficial announcement, and now we have the real deal for you: Under Armour is the new gear sponsor for the National Lacrosse League!
LaxAllStars.com got back on track with a win during week one of ULax’s outdoor Winter box lacrosse league in Manhattan. The website’s squad took down Team America (although with a name like that, winning made us feel awful) with relative ease, but it was really encouraging to see so many new faces to box lacrosse from the fine fellows in blue. I’d expect this team to improve greatly as the Winter season rolls along.
Please welcome Josh Potter back to LAS! Josh loves playing and coaching lacrosse, and I met him for the first time in Prague two years ago playing in the Ales Hrebesky Memorial box lacrosse tournament. Josh is sharing his story of getting back into the game, and in a whole new way!
A little less than two weeks ago, we teased you with some quick highlights from a NYC vs. Philadelphia box lacrosse game. This week, we’ve got the full video from Throne of String, and it’s a good one! Plenty of action, and some pretty sweet goals, saves, draws, and even some big hits.
Even though a good deal of the local NYC box lacrosse talent was in Hawaii last weekend, LaxAllStars still put together a solid squad of guys to make the early morning trek down to Philadelphia, to take on a local club, the Athletics, in a good old-fashioned game of box lacrosse.
We’ve got even more GREAT video from GetBenched! Check them out on YouTube and subscribe for more great old school box lacrosse video content! GetBenched has delivered some superb video in the past, and I love the old MILL promo videos, as well as this 1975 game, also featuring the Philadelphia Wings.
The world famous box lacrosse Stadium in Radotin (Czech Republic) is being torn down, but don’t worry too much, because if we know the Radotin crew as well as we think we do, it will be back, and better than ever! The video above shows the turf through the years, while focusing on the Ales Hrebesky Memorial champions of years past.
GetBenched has put up three amazing videos featuring Major Indoor Lacrosse League (MILL). The MILL started up in 1987, and is the predecessor to the NLL we all currently know. There was another NLL back in the 70s, which eventually folded before the MILL came into existence. This stuff is pure vintage box lacrosse! Jofa helmets and spandex everywhere!
Scotty Komer is a professional box lacrosse goalie, which means he is from Canada. Being from Canada, it is likely that he played quite a bit of hockey in addition to all that lacrosse. Seeing as Komer looks nothing but natural as the goalie in the above Coke Zero commercial (aside from all the goals he let in), we’d say he definitely played some puck as a kid.
Photo Credit: Daniel Bartel American box lacrosse baby! The midwest has it goin’ on this weekend with some topnotch semi-professional box action. Time to crown a champion. I’ve got my pick, who are you taking? Saturday, October 19th, the Continental Indoor Lacrosse League will host a four way battle for the cup in Cedar Springs, Michigan. […]
Minnesota is on board, are you? If you read my last article about the Jr. NLL, you probably noticed the guys dressed in the yellow honey comb jerseys. That would be the Junior Swarm and although they haven’t been playing lacrosse indoors for very long, the instruction and commitment they have received from Aime Caines, Ryan Benesch and the rest of the Swarm organization, is what I believe rocketed them to the top.
The year was 1975. The NLL had just started up and the Philadelphia Wings were the most popular team in this brand new professional sports league. Greats like Jim Wasson, John Grant Senior, and the Lloyd brothers played in the league, the helmets didn’t have face masks and the sticks were all made out of wood. The shorts were also truly short.
The Iroquois are 2-1 agains the US in Bowhunter Cup games, and 3-0 against the US at the WILC. The Iroquois won last year’s Bowhunter Cup 12-10. The Nationals are sending out a relatively seasoned group of players, and they will have plenty of offensive fire power. The US is sending out a younger team, with good box pedigrees.
