Traditional Thursday: ComLax Takeover – Warrior Scorpion

Today’s Traditional Thursday post is special for more than one reason. Not only do we have a guest host, we’re featuring a virtually unknown throwback head and we went all the way to ComLax on Long Island to uncover this gem.

I guess you could call today a Throwback Traditional Thursday Takeover. Phew! That sounds serious.

ComLax’s own Mike Sullivan aka The Stringmaster General aka the Man with the Golden Fingers met up with us at the Carle Place location to talk stringing and gear but most importantly to have some fun.

Mike broke out this rare Warrior Scorpion, argued as one of the weirdest/worst lacrosse heads of all time, but we found a way to have some fun with it!

Mike experimented with a new sidewall on the Scorpion because of the double holes on the rails. He was able to form a pretty solid 5 Diamond traditional with better than expected hold.

The side leathers are cranked all the way down on this bad boy and the pocket is actually pretty decent. Once finished, the head actually looks and throws really smooth, but is a nightmare on ground balls.

That scoop does not make it as easy as you’d think and once you’re under the ball, the head begins to act like a women’s stick. What I mean by that is, you have to really get under the ball and focus on scooping and bringing it in, when this head is below your waste, feeling the ball in the pocket is almost impossible. You have to approach ground balls like the women do and really come underneath the ball and bring it up to secure it.
