Traditional Thursday: Replaceable Sidewall Stringing

If you want to be able to pull your traditional pocket out of a broke head or worn head and move it to a new stick, there are ways to make this easy on yourself. The first is to use a top string for your leathers, which makes a transplant up top quite simple. The other important factor is to use a replaceable sidewall string on your pocket.

How do you do that? It’s easy!

Instead of putting your sidewall in as you regularly would, you want to attach the sidewall to the top hole, and then run it all the way down the head to the bottom hole. Use a piece of sidewall that is 2 times as long as one you would usually use. Then you string your pocket the same you regularly would. It should look like this when you are done:

So now you have a floating sidewall, and you need to attach the string to the actual plastic of the sidewall. You can do this in the classic way to finish off your replaceable sidewall stringing:

Or you can add knots to make the replaceable sidewall stringing more secure:

Either way, you now have a sidewall that can be taken out and NONE of the traditional pocket knots will come undone. A pocket like this can now quickly be moved from any one head to any other head.

Don’t think it works? Billy Nguyen has now moved a SINGLE traditional pocket into six different heads using this method. I have also tried this numerous times. It straight up works.

Here is a little video from the LaxAllStars YouTube Channel showing you exactly how it’s done:
