Haha, in all seriousness though, I think there are positives and negatives to having your parents or other family members on Facebook… especially when it comes to the 18-26 demographic, which started using Facebook at it's infancy before it was opened up to everyone. We put stuff on facebook we only wanted our friends to see! Though Facebook's privacy settings (their confusing) help curb any issues that might arise by befriending your mom, it's still kind of a weird thing to think about.

My parents recently joined Facebook and I'm actually starting to love it. They can keep tabs on me even though I live on the other side of the country. Same goes with Twitter. It's a new form of communication, allowing us all to be aware without having to spend time personally updating one another on our busy lives.

I think one of the awkwardest things about facebook is bridging the gap to reality. For instance, is it OK to continue a conversation you started on facebook the next time you see someone in person? Particularly if it were one that was started on facebook to avoid having it in real life? We are teetering on the brink of unexplored sociology here people!

Also, parents on facebook is another danger lurking out there that I forgot to mention. It's just asking for trouble. Anyone notice friends of theirs changing their last name to their middle name to “hide” on facebook? Possibly the lamest, most confusing trend I've seen right now.
