I agree that he talks to much, but I think this is also an ESPN thing…On MNF Gruden and “Jaws” just talk for the sake of talking with “that’s a football play!” “he has the best eye discipline” and “there’s a guy” (plus Gruden sitting with his legs as wide apart as possible on the stool)….watch an EPL game, it’s very refreshing to go 30 seconds with the only talking being a quick mention of who has the ball

I’m responsible for the Quint uniform and as he knows as well as I do that mockery is the highest form of flattery. This sport is going to new levels and is gaining on other sports like baseball and football. Quint happens to be an awesome wealth of knowledge on the sport. Love him or hate him, he’s great for the game. He loves lacrosse with a passion I wish more people had. What’s even better is that he has the balls to have an opinion knowing that people may not agree. Learn from him love the game and enjoy.

The unbiased point here is worth repeating. I’ve felt that Quint is able to give a very rational and seasoned opinion of a variety if not all NCAA D1 teams, despite his obvious connection to JHU. Similar to Kirk Herbstreit for college football, I’ve felt he has done a fabulous job being an unbiased opinion that generates discussion among fans.

Like Will, I would like to see him acknowledge the MCLA once in a while when on the World Wide Leader platform. Not asking him to love it, but endorse it as a viable option for all the youngsters out there listening to him. Hope what Connor said he did is the start.
Also, I sincerely hope his lawn furniture is OK.

I feel you on that point. It’s still tough for the MCLA to get the proper love from the traditionalists. But if it’s any consolation, Quint gave the NESCAC a lot of love this weekend, and that’s been a long time coming too. So we’re making steps! baby steps! And I’ll take ‘em!

I just rewatched that intro and you may be right… actually I think you are right. He was saying Merrill is Kobe and Rabil is Lebron. So while I was wrong about that, I was still right about it being a horrible comparison. Thanks Cam!

My one complaint with Quint is he has yet to acknowledge the MCLA. When going over a list of recruit commitments from a camp in Florida, he stopped at a player who has committed to play at Arizona State, and he said, “And there’s a kid who’s going west to play club ball.”

Calling the MCLA club ball is cute, and may have been fitting 15 years ago, but I think the league has earned respect beyond the moniker “club ball” which is associated with beer kegs and lack of coaching.

I like Quint, but I will LOVE him when he acknowledges the MCLA properly.

I thought he said that Brodie Merrill was Kobe, and that Rabil was Lebron… Kobe is always NBA all-defense, and Rabil and Lebron hadn’t won championships when the comment was made. I think there is a misreading, which just shows how worthless the comparison is.

Quints keys to the game for the national championship were the exact same 3 years in a row. He is captain obvious, but yes he is the biggest name outside players and coaches.

I think Quint is a bit like Jay Bilas for Duke basketball. They do their best to give unbiaeds analysis, and both are very good at their jobs. Their alma maters happen to be on TV all the time though, as both our national powers. So when the viewer constantly sees these two giving analysis of their teams, they connect that with homerism. But let’s try to separate the message from the messenger.

I couldn’t agree more about this. While QK can get a bit carried away, and does say some things that make you shake your head, it’s the fact that there is just too much of him. I understand what he’s trying to do to help educate people, but NON-lacrosse people that I’ve watched games with almost always ask why the color guy is talking so much. Thrillhouse hits the nail on the head.

QK is great for the halftime spotlight stuff, and pregame snippets. I just think during the games, less is more.

I have a lot of respect for QK, although I disagree with a lot of his ideas.
My problem is he talks too much in games for a color commentator. There is a lack of good play by play announcing in lacrosse. Hockey, which moves a lot faster, does it really well. For the MLL championship weekend, and most NCAA games I’ve watched with QK, they seem to talk over the game rather then about it. I think QK’s insights would work a lot better if he was paired with a straight play by play guy who would call the action, and at a stoppage of play, Quint could chime in with Quintism. (Can we make “Quintisms a thing?) It’s what most casual sports fans are use to, if that’s what they get when they stop at a lacrosse game, they may stick around.
