2012 Salt Shakerz Invitational Finals + Highlights

New York City played host to the Summer tournament scene’s kick off lacrosse event, as the Salt Shakerz Invitational was played in town all weekend. Many teams came from all over the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, and some were coming in from as far away as California. The talent level was as high as the temperatures, and shady spots were more valuable than a pair of Cam Newton UA cleats.

The temps hit 95 degrees or above on both Saturday and Sunday, and with all of the games being played on turf, you could definitely feel the heat in a major way. However, the Grand Central Parkway runs right over the fields we were on, and it provided a huge swatch of shade, and this was a total game changer. It also created a great place to hang out and possibly take a quick nap.

The bridge created a large shaded area. It was awesome.

When it came to the play on the field, a number of teams impressed.  Brooklyn LC (last year’s champs) made it to the Semifinals where they were knocked off by Lagunitas, and the highly touted Sea of Green team got knocked off in the semifinals by Chill-Lax Wear.  Other top teams were LaxBal, The Salt Shakerz, LaxAllStars.com/CityLax, Dust Bunnies, Xiphos, Brooklyn Dodgers and the Long Island Squids.

Once the finals were set, Lagunitas and Chill-Lax Wear hit the field and went to work:

Lagunitas brought their A-game!

We’ll be back later this week with tons of great photos and a full tournament review. The SSZ Invitational is a great kick off event for the Summer Club Scene, and there’s nowhere like New York City! This was year 2 of the event, and it was a step up from year 1.  We’re already excited for year 3!
