Friday Cheese: Gadgets Make The Lax World Go Round

Editor’s note: Brunelle is taking over the Daily Cheese for the next few days. Maybe longer. We’ll see what the trusty commenters have to say about it.

Greetings, Cheese lovers. I hope you’ve got enough coffee in you to make it through the work/school day and on to an exciting Friday night of pumpkin carving.

This doesn’t really have to do with lacrosse. Not directly, anyway. But I know most lacrosse players like gadgets, and when I saw this bohemeth of a t-shirt bazooka on Gizmodo, I had to share. Built by Bellarmine College Prep in CA (with NASA’s help), this thing weighs 160 pounds, shoots over 200 t-shirts per tank, and has a range of 150 yards. It shoots 3 shirts per second. Personally, I think LXM PRO should invest in one of these.

Which leads me to the climax of this post: The All-TIME 100 Gadget List:

TIME technology editor Peter Ha picks the 100 greatest and most influential gadgets from 1923 to the present

Having worked at Time Inc I may be a little bit biased, but this list is one of those editorial pieces I’ve learned to appreciate and look forward to when visiting Time.com. When looking at the list, there’s something for everyone – and if you’re like me, you start to spot gadgets that helped shape your life.

Exhibit A: Nintendo Game Boy

I owe all of my eye-hand coordination to my Game Boy. Had I not owned one of these in my early childhood I would never have been able to catch a lacrosse ball or park a car.

Exhibit B: Velcro

Someone once told me the greatest invention of all time was Velcro. I’ve never forgotten that and I tend to believe it. After all, where would our pads be without velcro?

Exhibit C:  The Credit Card

Without plastic, there’d be no LAS. I also never in my right mind would have purchased the a $240 d-pole as a senior in high school. Thank you mom, for the letting me borrow your Visa to fill up my car with gas…

And those are just a few of the wonderful pieces of technology that made us less like humans and more like cyborgs. Along the way, they also made us better lacrosse players. View the full list here. Now go enjoy your juicy lax links!
