Game Photos: Chesapeake Bayhawks Beat Boston Cannons

The Chesapeake Bayhawks hosted the Boston Cannons on Saturday, June 23rd, and Kim Black was in the house in Annapolis capturing all the action with some killer photos! Chesapeake won the game 14-13 and entered the 4th quarter up 12-9. Boston fought back, winning the final quarter 4-2, but it wasn’t enough to catch Chesapeake.

Both teams tried to utilize the 2-pointer all night long, and Paul Rabil and Kyle Dixon each had 2 for their respective squads. Chesapeake got very balanced scoring overall, and had 5 players with at least 3 points.  Boston got 7 points from Rabil, and 4 from Buchanan, but didn’t get more than 2 from anyone else.

Boston won the face off battle by a couple draws, and Chesapeake’s Kip Turner had 17 saves to Jordan Burke’s 13, but the big difference maker here was Chesapeake’s defense. I gave these guys a hard time in my Weekend Preview, and said they were slow and penalty-happy. They showed me up by amassing only  3 penalty minutes all game, even if 2 of those minutes were Brian Spallina’s.

Chesapeake is definitely looking like the top dog right now, but as the season progresses, Boston, Denver, Rochester and Long Island can all be seen as legitimate contenders. Even Hamilton and Charlotte are showing signs of life, but like Ohio, they simply need to rack up some more wins to really be in the playoff hunt.
