Been super busy down South, but gotta write about GTL’in… Growing Texas Lacrosse!

I want to start off with the fact that I am so proud of what the Flour Bluff Lacrosse Club’s boys team has done.  This past year I have written about the trials and tribulations that this group has gone through.  And honestly, the only avenue that I feel comfortable talking about this through is LacrosseAllstars.com.

As much as I hate to say it, the coffin for South Texas lacrosse has been built.  The “nail” in that coffin seems to be rearing its head.

Injuries, reversal of commitments, and the lack of sheer numbers, has caught up with us.  There was an LAS article on a college team playing ironman lacrosse, but what do you call an Ironman High School lacrosse program… Kamikazes.

Week in and week out we preach “Growing the Game” and “Never Stop”, but the hurdles are getting higher.

We started with a couple dozen, then had a roster of 17, and now we actually are living game to game on whether or not we can even come up with 10 players.  To some it’s hard to believe, but trust me, this is our reality.

I just want the kids to know that we’ll fight for them to the end, we’ll “Never Stop” supporting them, and I am so proud of what they are trying to do as they “Grow the Game”.

This group of kids has made every minute of work, every ounce of stress, and every drop of sweat, worth it.  And though there is always a chance that the next game is the last, I want them to know how proud I am of them, how proud the coaches and staff are of them, how proud their parents and friends are of them, and how proud the lacrosse community is of them.

This is not a swan song, and I hope that my next piece is about how they made the playoffs, but I just want to make sure that I say what needs to be said before it’s too late.

The next Kyle Harrison is in South Texas.  The next Chazz Woodson is here also.  And yes, the next Brett Hughes and Connor Martin are here with board shorts and lax sticks… So stick around because this is not the end of the story… This is just the beginning.

FB Lax… The hard work will pay off, it is paying off, and I promise you this, what you started… will “Never Stop.”

FBISD, Thank You for providing us with our first home.  The hot summer days on the soccer fields behind the high school is where this all began and one day I hope that this becomes the permanent home of the Flour Bluff Lacrosse Club.
