June 6, 2014 — Ohio Machine host the Boston Cannons

Ohio Machine 16, Boston Cannons 17On a record setting night at Selby Stadium, the Ohio Machine fell to the Boston Cannons 17-16.

What follows is a personal account of the game day experience from Brandon Geyer, LaxAllStars.com’s newly appointed “Machine Inspector.”

Ohio’s Pro Lacrosse Family

4,335 fans packed Selby Stadium at Ohio Wesleyan University last Friday night as the Ohio Machine took on the visiting Boston Cannons. Although the Cannons prevailed in the end, it was an awesome night to catch some MLL action for fans.

If you’ve ever debated on checking out a Major League Lacrosse game, or just looking for a relatively cheap activity to do on the weekends, definitely check out an Ohio Machine game. Besides getting to witness some of the best players the game has to offer compete against one another, a Machine game has something to offer fans of all ages and knowledge of lacrosse.

Friday was Boy Scouts of America night and many fans who attended this event had never seen a lacrosse game before. These fans completely took in the atmosphere and enjoyed every minute of it as they got to take part in lining the tunnel for the players to run through and get autographs after the game.

Observations

Here are some take aways and notes to help you plan your trip to a Machine game:

Gate/Game times: Game times vary from week to week so always be sure to check the website for game times. The gates open 3 hours before every game. The ticket office and will call both open 3 hours before the game.

Parking/Tailgating: There are multiple parking locations located around the stadium, including a handicap lot. Like the gates, the lots open three hours before game time.

Don’t forget to pack your grill, if you come out early enough you can join the part and enjoy a quality pre-game tailgate.

Prices: Game day ticket prices are $20 for general admission and $25 dollars for sideline reserved (which includes seats at the front of the stadium with waitress who bring food right to your seat).

Parking only cost $5, and if you park at the church it is a $5 donation to the church fund.

Merchandise: The team sells merchandise located near the entrance gate on the south side of the stadium. You can get hats, jerseys, hats, stickers, etc. Be sure to have your card handy because they only accept credit cards at the merchandise both.

Concessions: Selby Stadium offers 3 concession locations; under the west side stands and on the north and south ends. The concession stands accept both cash and credit. Since it is professional lacrosse, for those of age, the concession stands offers beer and adult options.

Time/Activities: Be sure to get to the games early and take advantage of the 3 hour early admittance. Whether you want to tailgate or just hang out in the stadium there is always something to do. Inside the stadium a bouncy house is offered to kids as well as an inflatable slide.

You can also catch pre-game warm-ups and join in the tunnel as the players run out to the field. After the game be sure to stick around and get an autograph from your favorite player. Almost every single guy sticks around until there are no more autographs to sign or pictures to be taken.

See It For Yourself

Before heading out to the game, make sure to check The Ohio Machine website for any events or specials. Like this Saturdays Father’s Day weekend special and bar crawl special.

  • The Father’s day special includes: 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs and 4 sodas all for $40
  • The bar crawl special includes: a bar crawl T-shirt with the sponsor bars on back and a ticket to the game. Each bar has a 30 minute time slot which ends it’s tour at Selby Stadium for game time.

So, if you are looking for something to do this weekend, head on out to the Machine game on Saturday at 5:30. Get there early and take part in all the pre-game festivities.

Go ahead and make a day out of it, you won’t regret it. Also, definitely be sure to stay around after the game and talk with some of the players – win or lose, they are a great group, and the guys are always willing to visit with fans and sign autographs. From the players to the front office and in between, it is clear to me that the entire organization is very appreciative of fan support.

So what are you waiting for? Sign yourself up for a Major League Lacrosse experience this summer!
