Show Me Lax talks with Junior Billikens’ Head Coach Mark Seyer about his 2013 SLUH team.

Show Me Lax: Coach, how are ya?
Head Coach Mark Seyer: Busy, busy, busy. Spring is upon us.

SML: Let’s get right to it, does SLUH compete in MSLA DI or DII?
Seyer: MSLA DI

SML: How many kids are in your H.S. lacrosse program?
Seyer: 92

SML: Have you seen any growth with your program specifically, or with lacrosse in general, in your area in the past few years? If so, what do you attribute that to?
Seyer: Numbers have remained about the same – but more experienced players are coming into our freshman class.

SML: What are some of your team’s major accomplishments in the past 4 years?
Seyer: Missouri State Champs in 2009 and 2012, Lacrosse Magazine ranked #10 in the Midwest in 2012, 67 Wins in the last 4 years.

SML: What are some of the big goals you have for your team this year?
Seyer: State Champs DI and to Crack the top 5 in the Midwest.

SML: Tell us about some of the players to watch for this season.
Seyer: Stephen Lordo – defense, committed to Robert Morris [NCAA] DI. Justin Mayfield – attack, committed to Robert Morris [NCAA] DI. John Lawder – goalie, 3 year starter in goal.

SML: Who are some of your biggest rivals?
Seyer: De Smet, MICDS and Rockhurst.

SML: Do you have any big trips your team takes this spring?
Seyer: Indianapolis and Columbus Ohio. We play Carmel in Indy, Worthington Killbourne and Pickerington North in Columbus.

SML: Tell us about your senior class. How much will they define the season, what have they helped do in their time, and are any of them playing in college?
Seyer: We have a very solid senior class.  We have experience at every position and leaders to pave the way for the younger guys.  I’m excited about this year to see the potential these guys could reach.  We have a lot of guys returning in key positions.  We’ll have a great senior face-off guy in Remy Hoffmann, couple that with an excellent goalie in John Lawder, I feel we’ll be able to control the tempo game. Seniors, Justin Mayfield and Stephen Lordo will be able to dictate the pace at either end.
