3 Major Points of Interest for 2012:
Gear
The saying ‘look good, feel good, play good’ has never been more true than it is today in the lacrosse world. With the ability to have almost complete customization of how your team looks on the field, teams have been coming up with some very unique and crazy ways to stand out from everyone else – and almost everyone loves it!
Bright colors, full sublimation, chrome everything – you name it, equipment companies will do it.
Lacrosse on TV
As lacrosse grows, so does the media coverage, and most importantly, the TV coverage. Last year we saw over 200 games broadcast via television and internet, with more people than ever turning in to watch them. As ESPN and other major networks start to pick up more and more lacrosse games, it will only be a matter of time before you start seeing lacrosse on prime time television – think Monday Night Football.
An Evolving Game
With the growth of the game, comes change, and the lacrosse world has definitely started to see plenty of changes in the past year. Professional lacrosse players are taking their athleticism to the next level, pockets are being re-strung to keep the ball secure, rules are being created in hopes of making the game better, and no longer do you have to hail from the NCAA D1 ball to be considered a great in the sport.
All three of these concepts boil down to one thing; the growth of lacrosse. Lacrosse is being played at an all-time high in terms of numbers, and with an annual growth rate of just over 10% since 2002, lacrosse will continue to become a bigger part of the sports world and the culture of gear, media, and technology that surrounds it.
