Video: Albany Wins; Thompson Trio Posts 22 Points

The Thompson attack trio of Ty, Miles, and Lyle combined for 22 points yesterday as Albany topped Bryant, 17-15, in men’s NCAA D1 lacrosse action. Miles Thompson scored an astounding 9 goals, which set a school record for goals in a single game for the Danes. Not bad for a guy just returning from an injury that forced him out of 3 games. Lyle and Ty each had three goals, and Lyle added 5 assists, while Ty had two.

Bryant outshot Albany 67-37. Yes, you read that correctly. Albany’s Blaze Riordan made 17 saves for the win, and Bryant was off the mark an astounding 35 times, which is only two less shots than Albany took all game.

Bryant had two players with five points in Colin Dunster (3-2-5) and Peter McMahon (0-5-5), and Shane Morrell had three goals. Neither of Bryant’s goalies made a ton of saves, but if this was typical Thompson scoring, a lot of it came inside, and it’s hard to pin that on a keeper alone.

Bryant led the game in almost every statistical category except for goals, and saves. The Bulldogs took more shots, won more GBs, cleared better, won more face offs, got more extra man chances and extra man goals, and they had fewer turnovers. But when Albany got chances, they buried them. Sometimes it’s as simple as finishing at an astonishing rate. 15 Thompson goals on 25 Thompson shots is astonishing.
