Gavin Banks, Natalie Wechter: NAIA Players Of The Week

We’re proud to present this week’s LaxAllStars 2020 NAIA Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 8. Gavin Banks (Reinhardt) and Natalie Wechter (Benedictine) take the honors for this week.

Men’s

This Week’s Performance

  • vs. Keiser: Five goals, one assist
  • vs. Lawrence Tech: Three goals, one assist
  • Notes: Gavin Banks exploded against Keiser (now ranked No. 2 in our NAIA Men’s Lacrosse Poll) for five goals and an assist, while throwing in another three goals and an assist against Lawrence Tech.

Player History

  • The junior had 82 goals and ten assists his sophomore campaign last season, while picking up 43 ground balls. Banks averaged 5.75 points per game that year while shooting 49 percent with 70 percent of his shots on goal. Reinhardt won its third national title that year while Banks took home NAIA First-Team All-America honors.
  • Banks’ freshman season saw him put up 35 goals and eight assists while nabbing 27 ground balls. The Eagles won its second NAIA title in 2018.

Women’s

This Week’s Performance

  • vs. Saint Mary: Three goals, five assists, 23 draw controls
  • vs. Indiana Tech: Five goals, one assist
  • Notes: Natalie Wechter could literally not stay away from the ball this past week as the sophomore scored eight goals with six assists for the week, good for 14 total points. Plus, Wechter made her presence known on the draw, controlling 23 against Saint Mary.

Player History

  • Wechter is averaging 5.8 points per game this year, good for being tied for 13th in the NAIA in points. Wechter also has 39 draw controls this year.
  • The sophomore had 98 points in her freshman year with 78 goals and 20 assists. Plus, Wechter added in 131 draw controls while picking up 45 ground balls and garnered NAIA First-Team All-America honors as well.
