Aggressive Defense By Archers LC: #FilmBreakdown

Archers Lacrosse Club doesn’t get enough credit for its aggressive defense. The clip on today’s #FilmBreakdown of Archers LC v. Redwoods LC shows two great examples of high-level lacrosse.

Aggressive Defense: #FilmBreakdown

First, we see Harbeson set a pick for Kavanaugh. The defenders decide to switch, but McIntosh hedges out to chip Kavanaugh — a common practice to provide time for your teammate to slide under the pick. Meanwhile a third defender subs in quickly, ignores whoever he is supposed to pickup and sees a great opportunity to double, or triple team Kavanaugh from his blind side. Kavanaugh gets mauled and the ball hits the ground thanks to the aggressive defense.

Then, we have a loose ball situation where we see three Archers swarm the ball compared to just two Redwoods players. The ball is deflected toward the midline where a Redwoods player is able to pick it up. While collecting the ground ball an Archers attackman rushes to the midline to add pressure, while another Archers defender pressures the other side. This pressure leads the Redwoods player to commit an over-and-back violation, concluding a fantastic defensive possession for the Archers.
