Friday afternoon, Connor Martin and Brett Hughes landed in Baton Rouge. Our itinerary was ridiculously packed for the weekend, so we wasted no time and got straight to business.
Best weekend in my lacrosse life ever.
Stops at Catholic High and Dutchtown were quickly made for brief demonstrations, followed by an attempt to visit Brother Martin in New Orleans that was foiled by traffic (sorry guys, we tried but missed you by a half hour).
The first ever Boom Town camp took place on Saturday and Sunday right here in the Sportsman’s paradise. All the participants’ heads exploded at Con and Brett’s sheer awesomeness.
Here are some pictures:
The clinic was really well done. Brett and Connor were extremely professional, and had a great agenda for both days, working from the absolute basics all the way up to team play. The players who attended boosted their skills at least ten-fold. Special thanks goes out to the parents who helped run the administrative parts of the clinic, and to LSU laxer Daniel Adler for helping coach. Daniel is all about giving back to the community, and he stepped it up a notch this weekend and represented LSU lacrosse well.
There were about 40 players in attendance, ages ranging from 11 – 18. Pretty much everyone was from Dutchvegas, with the exception of a few Crescent City Laxers and a couple kids from Catholic. Everyone received an awesome Boom Town Pinnie.
Of course, we have footage from the clinics:[fvplayer src=”https://youtube.com/watch?v=QVZv8s1kRTM?fs=1″]

Lots of stuff going on here. Flowbucket goes hard at 2:10[fvplayer src=”https://youtube.com/watch?v=dvCYIF7nvz4?fs=1″ splash=”https://i.ytimg.com/vi/dvCYIF7nvz4/hqdefault.jpg” caption=”Brett Hughes and Connor Martin put on Boom Town”]
After the clinic came to a close, awards were given out. Some lucky players received gear from Brett and STX, and some Con Bro Chill T’s for keeps. Really awesome stuff, and super generous of them to give so much back to the players.
Then Con Brew played some box with us. Even in the few minutes that we were there, he showed us some awesome strategies, formations, and even taught us the rules. How awesome.
I honestly can’t say enough good things about these two guys. They were amazing with the players this weekend, and were super awesome to me. We had an absolute blast all weekend long, going from the lacrosse clinic, to eating really heavy Cajun cuisine, and all the way to playing in box lacrosse games.
If you ever get the chance to hang out with these guys or learn from them, DO NOT PASS IT UP. They are straight up incredible people, and anyone who was there in Baton Rouge this weekend will tell you it was one of the best experiences they’ve ever had on a lacrosse field.
Thanks so much to Brett and Connor for truly growing the game, and changing Louisiana lacrosse. It really was a dream come true.
