Colorado Sees 3 Added To IWLCA Regional Teams

Three members of the University of Colorado women’s lacrosse team earned spots on the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association’s (IWCLA) All-West/Midwest Region teams, which were announced on Tuesday.

Colorado Senior attacker Miranda Stinson was selected to the first team, while fellow seniors Olivia Aschman (defender) and Samantha Nemirov (attacker), were named to the IWCLA second team. These are the first all-region selections for Aschman and Nemirov, while it is Stinson’s third time on the all-region squad. She was named to the second team in 2017 and was on the first time in 2018.

Stinson, the 2019 Pac-12 Conference Attacker of the Year, was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week three times this season and was selected to the Tewaaraton Top-25 list at the end of April. She led Colorado in points (80), goals (64), assists (16), free-position goals (20), ground balls (37), caused turnovers (23), shots (157) and shots on goal (115), and was second in draw controls (54).

An All-Pac-12 First Team member, she was the conference leader in goals and goals per game (3.37), points, points per game (4.21), shots per game (8.26), shots on goal per game (6.05) and free-position goals per game (1.05). Nationally, Stinson ranks ninth in shots per game and shots on goal per game, 16th in goals, 17th in goals per game, 20th in free-position goals per game, 30th in points and 42nd in points per game.

Aschman was also named to the All-Pac-12 First Team. During the season, she marked-up several top opponent attackers. Aschman was second on the team with 19 caused turnovers and helped the Buffs clear at an 86.8 percent (315-363). She also added 24 ground balls during the campaign. In Pac-12 play, Aschman averaged 1.30 caused turnovers per game (13 total), which was the fourth best mark in the conference.

Nemirov, another All-Pac-12 First Team honoree, was Colorado’s second leading attacker with 51 goals and 66 points. She was second on the team in assists with 15 and tied for second with 13 free-position goals. She was third in the Pac-12 in goals per game (2.68) and was fourth in points for game (3.47). In conference only games, she finished second in goals per game (3.10), third points per game (4.10) and seventh in assists per game (1.00).

The Buffs completed the 2019 campaign with an 11-8 overall record and placed second in the Pac-12 Conference with a 9-1 mark.
