Hey guys, this is Justin Skaggs, lead stick makers at Skaggs Wood Works and curator of WoodLacrosseSticks.com, and I am in a very messy, yet-to-be-finished wood shop. I’m still self-quarantining, trying to out the new Skaggs Wood Works together before everyone comes back, including my stick makers and media guy, which is why I’m currently filming this selfie-style. But I do still want to show you guys the sticks that I’m producing and putting out during my down time.
So, this was a really nice and sweet stick, and I know for a fact that this one is a gift, so again, I’m not going to mention the name, but this customized wooden Box Pro is intended to commemorate someone’s time playing this beautiful game of lacrosse that we all love. And my favorite part of the engravings on the stick is the initials and lettering and numbers on the sidewall. The sidewall is an underutilized piece of real estate when it comes to engraving, and I think it works incredibly well on this particular stick.
And, I really love when the shaft and the sidewall kind of correlate to tell a story, and whoever is going to hold this stick is going to be able to remember their time playing this game, so it’s always an honor to build things like this. I know that every stick is special and you kind of get a little bit of a story, which I did in this case, behind why I’m building it and what it’s going to mean for the final user is always exceptionally special, so thank you very much for trusting me with the responsibility of building that for you.
