Mann Cup: Shamrocks Take Game Three 8-6

With an 8-6 win on Monday night on Vancouver Island, the Victoria Shamrocks now hold a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series over the Six Nations Chiefs. The winner of the series is crowned champion of Senior Men’s Lacrosse in Canada, and gets to hoist the monstrous Mann Cup. All three games have been tight, and no team has won a game by more than 2 goals. It’s the best of the best from the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) and the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA). Who’s taking home the hardware?

Game three saw the Shamrocks win 8-6, and so on the back of an early run, where they went up big on the Chiefs. A 6-1 lead after one period isn’t set in stone, but it’s a good start to the game! Cory Conway led the way for Victoria with a hat trick. Jeff Shattler’s two goals (and four helpers) can not go overlooked, and neither can Matt Vinc’s 37 saves, or Victoria’s tough team defense.

Six Nations did make a pretty methodical comeback, outscoring Victoria 5-2 over the last two periods, and seemed to do better with Brandon Miller in net. Evan Kirk started the game, and it was a bit of a rough go, allowing 5 goals on 15 shots. Jesse King, the junior player call up, and hero of Game 1, was unavailable for Victoria, as practice had started for Ohio State, where he currently plays his college ball.

Huge thanks goes out to Gary Woodburn for giving us permission to use his photos!

Game 4 is tonight… who you got?
