Never The Same Way

Good morning, and happy Friday!

One thing I’ve learned over the last 6 or so years working for myself is that consistency, discipline, and focus are of the utmost importance. Nobody will hold me accountable. I have to hold myself accountable. And falling short in these areas generally does not affect anyone else but me. My success day to day, week to week, month to month, year to year is fully dependent upon my ability to be consistent, disciplined, and focused throughout each working day.

In different ways and for different reasons, these are three characteristics that are important in every aspect of our lives. Any number of things can throw our routines out of wack. The key is being able to reestablish our routines as quickly as possible. In basketball and lacrosse we play team defense, not with the intent of getting beat, but with the knowledge that if we get beat, we can only get beat to certain spots on the floor/field because we know that we have help coming. And when that happens, it should set up a chain reaction. One player helps, and everyone else adjusts accordingly. We scramble to stop the bleeding, so to speak, and then we reestablish our original defensive shape and positioning.

When we lose focus, fail to be disciplined, or slip in consistency, it’s not the end of the world. But we’ve got to have a plan to reestablish ourselves as quickly as possible. We figure out what caused the problem or often what we allowed to happen that created the problem, and work toward not getting beat the same way again.

Make it a GREAT day, and a GREAT weekend!

Stay blessed.
