Penn State: Meet The Team

Editor’s Note: Please welcome Lance Antoine to LAS! Lance will be writing about all things lacrosse this year, and for his next post, he’s checking out the men that make up the Nittany Lions.

Earlier this week, a couple LAS writers picked Penn State and Notre Dame as the early favorites to win the Championship. Everyone knows who Notre Dame is, but who exactly is the driving force behind the up and coming, 8th ranked, Penn State?

When you think “Big Name” lacrosse the Nittany Lions don’t exactly come to mind for most people, but you may want to rethink that. Penn State is currently 2-1, losing only by 1 point to Notre Dame. Their biggest win this year came during their second game against Denver, when they won 15-12. They are coached by Jeff Tambroni, he is currently in his third year at Penn State and he clearly knows what he’s doing.

The Lions’ two leading scorers are Sr. Jack Forster and Fr. T.J. Sanders. Together the two have put up 17 goals, Jack has 9 and T.J. has 8.

Well what about defense? Who’s the man that makes the saves for the Lions? Well that man is Austin Kaut, arguably the best goalie in college lacrosse (at the moment). Kaut is a 6’1 205 lb. beast from Morton Pennsylvania. He was added to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List last Friday. Kaut currently has a .533 save percentage, you’re definitely going to want to keep your eye on him, and the rest of Penn State as the season progresses.

Their next game is Saturday at home where they’ll be taking on Nick Myers and his Ohio State Buckeyes, it’s sure to be a great game.
