Yinzers at the Next Level

A weekly series that will track the progress of Pittsburgh athletes at the next level… playing college lacrosse! As Pittsburgh has improved over time, the area has produced more and more high level talent. We are now at the point where tracking Pittsburgh players in college should be a thing. And now it is. Check out Yinzer Report #1#2, and #3 to get caught up.

NCAA D1

Marquette – Freshman Andy DeMichiei (Hampton) had two assists, a new career high, in Marquette’s 14-13 win over Rutgers. This victory was Marquette’s first Big East conquest in school history.

Robert Morris – Senior Brian Bohn (Seneca Valley) made 16 saves in a 9-7 loss to Sacred Heart. The Colonials fall to 4-5 on the year.

NCAA D2

Lenoir-Rhyne – Senior Tyler Kotch (Butler) scored 2 goals and dished out 1 assist in a 17-10 win over Wingate.

Mercyhurst – Senior Jake McAndrew (Seneca Valley) scored once in Mercyhurst’s 10-8 win over Dowling. McAndrew is second on the team in points with 16.

Seton Hill – The Griffins topped Molloy 10-7. Senior Jimmy Cogley (Peters Township) scored twice and freshman Zach Rusch (Bethel Park) added an assist. Sophomore Anthony Peluso (North Allegheny) went 16 of 22 from the face off X. The Griffins snapped a two game losing skid and are now 5-2.

NCAA D3

Dension – Freshman Will Nabors (Mt. Lebanon) finished the 4th quarter of Denison’s 21-0 win over DePauw. He did not have to make a save.

Gettysburg – Junior Bijan Firouzan (Mt. Lebanon) had a monster week. He tallied 6 goals and 1 assist in a 14-4 win over Widener and 3 goals and 2 assists in a 18-4 win over Muhlenberg. Firouzan is now third on the team in points with 23.

McDaniel – Freshman Timothy McNichol (Mt. Lebanon) continues to produce for the Green Terror. He was involved in every goal scored for McDaniel in a 10-3 loss to Dickinson. He scored twice and added an assist. Over the weekend, McNichol recored a hat trick in McDaniel’s 13-11 triumph over Haverford. He is know second on the team in points with 17.

Washington & Jefferson –  Senior Casey Smallwood (Pine Richland) scored once and junior John Bursch (Greensburg Central Catholic) scored twice in W&J’s 15-4 loss to Scranton.

Mt. Lebanon visits Shady Side in an important match up for Pittsburgh and Midwest Scholastic seedings. Mt. Lebanon sits at 2-2 after dropping both games this past weekend to Central PA teams Carlisle and Hempfield. Shady Side is 1-0 after a 12-3 win over Hampton.

Robbie Woodings (2015 Shadyside, Army commit) might be the top faceoff man in Pittsburgh. His brother Chris, a freshman, is showing equal promise.

Upper St. Clair (5-0), Moon (4-0), and Fox Chapel (4-0) are off to fast starts.

Bethel Park (3-0) visits Hampton (2-1) tonight in cross sectional action.
