Crosse Clicks: Fat Tuesday

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]rom the ping-pong table in the garage of the lacrosse house in Eugene, Oregon, to the glow party on Princeton lawn, college students all over the country are going to have a little extra fun today. You see, today is Mardi Gras, and in the United States, Mardi Gras (French for “Fat Tuesday”) parties have become quite the tradition.

In honor of such wild day, I thought we’d revisit last month’s Mardi Gras Lacrosse Tournament, which featured, quite possibly, the muddiest lacrosse game ever played in Louisiana. Connor always speaks highly of his trips to New Orleans, and I can’t wait to join him for a visit one day. From my understanding, the players who attend the Mardi Gras tourney bring with them a contagious passion for the game!

Ever heard of the “Pure Substitution Effect?” According to journalist Lincoln Caplan, it “occurs when a new technology replaces an old one very quickly and changes the way the action is done.” This happened back in the day when Caplan played lacrosse for Harvard and everybody suddenly started using plastic sticks. He believes the same thing will happen to journalism thanks to the technological advances of the near future.
